2002 ford explorer

Could be a lot of thing's , you should have it checked at a qualified repair shop .

Bad fuel filter is most likely. Especially if it will idle forever but only drive for 5 minutes and then stalls. Explorers have several fuel filters.

I would suggest you have the fuel pressure monitored while driving, this takes special equipment. Also have a functional test run on the engines automatic idle speed control system, you could have a defective idle speed control valve.

YOU NEED TO CHECK OR CALL THE FORD DEALERSHIP.TELL THEM YOUR ENGINE SIZE AND YEAR OF VECHICLE.THEY WILL TELL YOU WHAT AMP ALTERNATOR TO USE.IF YOU HAVING IDLING PROBLEMS.WHEN YOU DISCONNECT BATTERY.TO REPLACE ALTERNATOR.THE COMPUTER LOST MEMORY.WHICH WILL CAUSE YOU TO LOSE IDLE CAUSING VECHICLE TO STALL OUT AT STOP SIGNS OR LIGHTS.THE COMPUTER WILL RELEARN ITS SELF BUT ITS BEST TO TAKE TO DEALERSHIP TO RESET YOUR IDLE SO YOUR VECHICLE WILL STOP STALLING OUT ON YOU.

IT COULD BE FAULTY FUEL PUMP. OR IDLE SPEED CONTROL NOT WORKING.HAVE IT HOOK UP TO DIAGNOSTIC SCANNER TO CHECK FOR EGR PROBLEMS.

this is usually a sign of a bad starter when you turn the key and will not turn over but not sure why it died when stopping!
