Replaced coil but marlings on wires rubbed out if any one could help.

Ignition Coils/Modules
The electronic ignition system uses an individual ignition coil for each cylinder. There are two separate ignition module assemblies located in the camshaft cover of each cylinder bank. Each ignition module assembly contains an ignition control module and four ignition coils. Each ignition coil connects directly to a spark plug using a boot. This arrangement eliminates the need for secondary ignition wires. The ignition module assemblies receive power from a fused ignition feed. Both ignition module assemblies connect to chassis ground. A Reference Low and four ignition control (IC) circuits connect each ignition module assembly to the PCM. The PCM uses the individual IC circuits to control coil sequencing and spark timing for each ignition coil. The IC circuits transmit timing pulses from the PCM to the ignition control module to trigger the ignition coil and fire the spark plug. The PCM controls ignition system sequencing and timing events

Fix Error code P2308 on a 2004 dodge caravan


It could very well be the coil. Before you change it out however, look real close at the wiring harness near the ignition coil mounting bracket. I have seen the wiring rub and short around that area. If you are sure that there are no short, replace the coil pack.

Missing problem


Missing problem requires to check the following systems and components:
1. Fuel system. (Fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel injectors).
2. Ignition system. (Spark plugs, spark plug cords or wires, ignition coil, distributor (cars with distributor type ignition system, rotor, distributor cap, ignition amplifier), Coils On Plugs (COP) and correct sequence of the spark plug wires and or Igniter connectors.
3. Air leakage in the intake manifold.
4. Detached vacuum hose.
5. PCV Valve.
6. Servo brake booster pipe or diaphragm.
7. Valve clearance.
8. Cylinder compression.
9. Contaminated fuel.
10 . ECM.

Crankshaft sensor and ignition module keep taking a dump.


I would check for a short somewhere in the wire harness or check the bell for true on crank balancer make sure its not rubbing pickup

Need to know where the spark plug wires go on the coil pack


WHAT SIZE ENGINE 2.4L 3.4L OR 3.1L NEED TO KNOW. BECAUSE EACH ENGINE SPARK PLUG WIRE FROM IGNITION COIL TO SPARK PLUGS TO THE ENGINE PLUGS GOING TO BE IN DIFFERENT SEQUENCES.

While cranking loud backfire than i restart engine again than it cranks than starts up,this happend about 6 times during 3 months. Car did same thing yesterday, but it just cranks won't start 98 olds...


Not sure if you have a 1996 Cadillac Seville or a 1998 Olds Aurora but I would check the Ignition Coil Packs. One or more of them may need to be replaced. Also if you were working on the car and got the wires plugged onto the wrong coils then the firing order sequence would not be correct and this can cause a misfire or backfire conditon.

Ignition wires cannot rest near the primary wire harness of the ignition module, which can cause electrical interference and a no start condition or a misfire condition

On my friends 1997 Cadillac Seville it was easy to replace all 4 coil packs took less than 30 minutes and made the car run much better. Just make sure to get the firing order right. If necessary find a diagram of the correct firing order for you vehicle.

Make sure that the primary wire between the distributor ignition points and ignition coil is not damaged anywhere and grounding the circuit out. This is not a ground wire.

Replace the ignition points condenser, if this is shorted your points will never be able to work. With the condenser removed, use an ohm meter to check the resistance between the end of the condenser wire and the condenser caseing, there should be infinite resistance or an open loop, but it should not show any kind of a connection between the two, or it is grounded or "shorted to ground" and it will prevent the ignition system from working.

Are the ignition points adjusted properly? They have to open and close to send a dwell signal to the coil.

Connect a test light to ground and on the NEG. (-) side of the coil, have someone crank the engine and look for the test light to flash, the test light should flash indicating a dwell signal or coil pulse. (Do not use the POS. + side of the coil for this test, because you will not get a dwell signal).

If no dwell signal, then...

1. Turn off ignition and remove the distributor cap and turn the engine over until a high spot on the distributor cam lobe is on the rubbing block on the ignition points.

This is the fully open position for the ignition points and where they need to be to set them. and if you do not know the feeler gauge size, or the dwell angle to set your points at (according to manufacturers specifications), then tear off a piece of a match book and place it between the two point breakers.

2. Loosen the point hold down adjusting screw and move the base of the points with a screwdriver (look for adjusting nothches), until there is a light drag felt pulling on the match book. For the newer GM's up to 1974, just use a 1/8 allen wrench to obtain the same light drag on the match book.

3. Remove the matchbook and there should still be a small gap between the point breakers, rotate the engine and you should see the points open and fully close.

4. Pull the coil wire out of the distributor cap and ground the end of the coil wire well or you might get shocked.

5. Have someone crank the engine and re-check for a dwell signal, you should also see a blue-white spark flashing between the point breakers as they open and close.

If you now have a dwell signal then replace the distributor cap back onto the distributor and the the coil wire back onto the distributor cap, the engine should now start.

If you did not grease the rubbing block of the ignition points with die-electric grease when you installed them, then the rubbing block on the points will wear down prematurely, the points will close down, and the engine will no longer start.

If you crank your engine over and the ignition rotor turns clockwise (looking down at the rotor) then you need to put the die-electric grease along the right side of the rubbing block edge (looking down at the points) so that the grease is trapped between the points and the distributor cam lobe, and the distributor cam lobe can pick up the grease. (Grease the left side of the rubbing block edge if the ignition rotor turns counter-clockwise). Only use die-electric grease.

Replacing ignition wires on 1998 Cadillac De Ville


I usually take the 4 10mm bolts that hold the coil module assembly to the valve cover. take the front bank wires off as a set as well as the rear bank. lay them out on a work bench get a sharpie and mark where the wires go throuh the looms. do one at a time and mark the tops of the wires with there number.

Access to odd numbered spark plugs on North-Star V8


To gain access you have to remove the ignition coil pack. There are only 4 10mm bolts holding it on. Also remove the cross over to have more room.

The ignition system consists of an ignition coil, spark plug wires and spark plugs.
The crankshaft position sensor signal is the basis for ignition timing calculations. The alternating voltage signal from the crankshaft position sensor is digitized by the powertrain control module. This digitized signal is then used to position the closing time of the primary circuit of the ignition coil.
Ignition angle is determined by the powertrain control module in response to engine operating conditions. Once ignition angle has been determined, the powertrain control module interrupts the current to the primary circuit of the ignition coil thus triggering the ignition spark which is supplied to the cylinders through the spark plug wires and spark plugs.
The ignition coils are triggered by the powertrain control module in pairs (cylinders 1 and 4 and cylinders 3 and 2) sending one ignition spark to the firing cylinder and one ignition spark to the corresponding cylinder on the exhaust stroke. This make sures that any unburnt fuel residues remaining in the cylinder on the exhaust stroke are re - ignited to provide cleaner exhaust emissions.
