Buick rendezvous rear window's drivers side defroster wire is disconnected. I don't know how to fix it. Even when I hold the wire to the connection point, it doesn't spark or defrost anything.

If the defroster isn't burned out, you need to resolder the wire to the defroster. Chance are when your just holding the wire to the connection you're not getting enough contact to operate it.

Rear window defroster not working

Check obvious things first, fuses. Pull out your manual and look for locations. Second, there should be 2 wires going to the grid on the rear window defroster. Make certain they are still plugged in and the tabs have not been broken off, frequently happens at car washes when washing rear window. Third, take a close look at the grid of wire on the glass, looking for scratches. If scratched, you may be able to repair with a rear window defogger kit from your local auto store

I have a 2005 nissan altima with a rear defroster problem. The power comes on, I hear the relay kick in and I see the window clearing but it won't shut off automatically unless I press the button off or...

Yes, there should be a timing mechanism that shuts the defroster off after a certain time. Are you sure you are giving it enough time? Usually about 10 or 15 minutes when most defrosters turn off automatically. Try contacting a dealer service or tech rep about the system- how long it should stay on, how to diagnose, where such parts are located, etc.

My 2004 6cfl. Trailblazer rear window defroster is not working. The wires appear to be making a good contact. The outside mirrors defrost ok using the same switch as the test window defroster. Is there...

There is a module that controls the rear window defogger grid . LGM/ EGM Liftgate or endgate module .Receive's message on class 2 serial data network from the HVAC control module to turn it on when button pressed . Fuse # 3 30 amp located in the rear fuse box . Do you know where the rear fuse box is ?
Rear Window Defogger Description and Operation
Rear Window Defogger System Components
The rear window defogger system consist of the following components:
• HVAC control module
• Liftgate module (LGM)/endgate module (EGM)
• Rear window defogger grid
Rear Window Defogger Operation (With LGM)
Battery positive voltage is supplied through the LGM 2 fuse to the LGM for the rear window defogger system. When the rear window defogger switch is depressed, the HVAC control module illuminates the rear window defogger indicator, and sends a class 2 message to the LGM to enable the rear window defogger. The LGM enables the rear window defogger by allowing battery positive voltage to the rear window defogger.
When the rear window defogger switch is pressed for the first time, the defogger cycle lasts 10 minutes. Further operation results in 10 minute defogger cycles.
Rear Window Defogger Operation (With EGM)
Battery positive voltage is supplied through the EGM 2 fuse to the EGM for the rear window defogger system. When the rear window defogger switch is depressed, the HVAC control module illuminates the rear window defogger indicator, and sends a class 2 message to the EGM to enable the rear window defogger. The EGM enables the rear window defogger by allowing battery positive voltage to the rear window defogger.
The following conditions must be met for rear window defogger to operate:
• The end gate glass position is not below the index position.
• The window express down movement is not requested.
• The window down movement is not requested.
If the end-gate glass is not fully closed, the DIC displays "Tailgate Glass Down" when the rear defogger operation is attempted.
When the rear window defogger switch is pressed for the first time, the defogger cycle lasts 10 minutes. Further operation results in 10 minute defogger cycles.

Rear defrost does not clear window

best bet would be if its under warrenty, even if its not, take pictures of the window when it starts to defrost, and make sure you can see the spots that it is not defrosting. a cobalt i had worked on needed a new rear windshield to fix the problem. it may work but it doesnt work. could have a couple bad lines in the defroster, or it could have wiring issues. but pictures say a thousand words when you are trying to get something like that fixed.

Rear window defroster does not work - light says it is on

I have had this same problem with my 2000 Sebring Convertible. I was told that the rear defrost is often a problem in convertibles and hatch-backs. My problem is very obvious though. When I turn the rear defrost on - the light does turn on (as if it was working), but the power does not get through. There are small 'clips' on each side of the window that hold the wires. After time and putting the top up and down, the clips can come off. My passenger side clip is currently hanging - very visible. Many mechanics are afraid to fuss with putting it back on for fear that they cause more damage than good. Look on the sides of the rear window and you may see the problem. Good luck.

I press the rear dfrost button and the light comes on but the window is not defrosting

The Impala has a bad wire connector under the passenger side kick panel. You will find a burnt spot in the connector. Cut the wire on both sides of the connectot an solder in a wire to bypass the connector. I believe the wire is purple. This will fix the rear window defroster but even after this fix you may find that the rear defroster will no longer turn off by itself.

How do I reattach connector to rear window defroster that has fallen off of window?

You may be able to buy a spade connector and trim the wire to enable you to fit the new connector and attach it to the window. If the contact has been damaged on the actual glass it may be possible to solder onto it.

all the best

Radio / rear window operation

Hi there, I am not familiar with the Kia, however here's the deal. The Ariel for the radio only would need a single connection as its like providing a wire to receive the radio waves through. So one connection for the Radio ariel is good.

The rear window though is basically a circuit of resistive wire in the rear window that gets hot as the electric current flows through it. To have current flow through it it has to have a way for the current to get into the circuit (out of the battery or alternator and into the window) and way to return back to the alternator or battery - so for the rear window there needs to be 2 contacts.

Its possible that they have a connection at the edge of the window at the top or the bottom, but you need a complete circuit for the rear window demister to work. So check all around to see if there are any other connections that are around the window that are not connected where the body shop guys may have trapped the wire under the trim ? Also the only other thing that prevents the rear demister from working may be the fuse - could check that, and if the wires across the window are broken some how buy some one scraping something across the glass and breaking the circuit that way.

If you check the fuse and there are no obvious breaks in the wires on the rear window i would call the Kia Service center and talk to one of the guys there and ask if they can give any advice on where the connections are and if they think you shoudl take it back to the body shop again - iut certainly sounds like they have not connected it up right at the body shop so or they have damaged the window so I would take it back.
