Question about 1994 Honda Civic

Engine idling varies depending on light or aircon is on/off

My '94 civic hatchback (1200cc) idling is fine when i start the car. but when driving, sometimes the idling is too low which makes the engine shake. this is trigerred when i switch on the headlights. when i switch the aircon and lights, the shaking gets worse. but when i switch off the headlights, idling is ok even with aircon. sometimes, i feel idling is high when i switch on the aircon. my civic EG does not have RPM guage. hope you can help me.

Dude its normal for first start or cold start that the idle is ok but it must high than normal... its normal because the engine is warming up it self... when it gets warm, the idle speed will return normal idle... your engine is 1200cc, it has not much HP for a great load... and i know its a carburatored engine and its an old engine, your head lyt and a/c fan and aux fan and all the electrical system on your car, uses the HP of you engine and its a lot of load to the alternator driven by the engine to generate an electricity they need and thats why the engine rpm speed lowering down to dead and its shake. thats why when you use your lyts or all electrical, you engine is weakening... the best remede is adjusting you idle speed... its located behind the carburator.. its a small black knob.. just make a twist each eighter way and you'll find out if your idle rpm speed ts incresing or decresing.. just increase it and try opening your lyts and other electrical, if its still shaking then adjust it a little more

Check Engine light going on for a '98 Civic Hatchback

Well, go to Auto Zone and have them read the error code it is setting. They'll tell you what the issue is. Usually, if it's not running hot and the oil light is not coming one, you can drive it for a while. It could be something you need to have repaired, though, or it may cause more damage.

I have a 91' honda civic hatchback and it starts idle surging.

Check and make sure your coolant level is up. If it's up, your idle air control valve is faulty or your cold start solenoid isn't working anymore. Both are activated by the engine water temp.

Have the car checked for the fault codes. I suspect it's your oxygen sensor.

Well. when i start my honda civic 1996 ej9, and when it eventually warms up it starts to aggressively idle! the needle constantly goes up and down. drives fine though. taken to several garages but cannot...

Have they checked the O2 sensor, some times the engine will "hunt" if the car isn't getting a consistent signal from the O2 sensor. A car may "hunt" if there is some kind of interruption or disturbance to airflow.. check your air intake as well, i had a friend who had a dead rat in his.

adjust the RPM of the engine when the aircon is off that match the RPM of the engine when the aircon is on but not too much.
