after a short run and stopping engine, the engine feels very lumpy on start up and idling only just ticks over and the whole car vibrates. Sometimes the power drops suddenly and it feels like its running on 3 cylinders.

SOURCE: How to readjust the Timing Belt without removing the belt.

hi,i also have a 1997 maza 626,you it is reccommed that you change the timing belt and the water pump at the same time,if you just change the timeing belt, then the water pump will go and you would have to do it all over again, you would be paying double. The timeing belt is together with the water pump,so you have to change every 70,000miles....Shop around..i got one guy for 500,anthor for420 dollors,it could take one day max two, don;t pay over 500 dollor's for this....

SOURCE: I set cam and crank timing but no comp. No bent

I have run into this before . Volvo wants you to buy a special tool to properly set these cam's in time since the cam-drive pulleys are oil advanced . That's fine if you have up to $300.00 for the tool . I made 1 for under $20.00 . Here's How - Buy a 2in. by 7in. by 1/4in. piece of flat steel . 1 - Measure & mark 2in from each end (Length wise) . 2 - Measure & mark from the previous marks 3/4 in. towards center (Width Wise) . 3 - cut out space between marks (Finished product will look like a flat horse-shoe) . 4 - Put (flat horse-shoe) in a vise length wise (TABS UP) . 5 - bend each tab 1/8in.out from straight in line oposite directions (When done if you look straight down the lenght of the tool the tabs will make it apear the 1/4in piece of metal twice as thick)(1/2in.) 6 - Pull valve cover and look at the fire-wall side of the cam-shafts 1 side will be small half moon up(slots in cam will give the apearence of a small & large half moon) 1 small up and the other cam small half moon down . 7 - slightly turn the cams left or right to be able to fit tool in slots . 8 - With tool in place re-install cam-drive belt w/# 1 piston at TDC . 9 - adjust tensioner with very little tension against belt ( grab belt w/ tensioner tight above and below tensioner you should only be able to twist belt no more tha 1/2in. either way ) Bolt her down put her back together ( remove tool ) put valve cover back on & fire it up . GOOD LUCK!!! hope this helps you out .

check the timing setting as it may be too far advanced ( set at 5 degrees advanced to start) check and adjust the fuel setting of the main jet as it may be too rich at idle.. You state that the flywheel was out of true and with the vibrations I suspect that the crank shaft may be bent. Something that would not normally be checked

My navigator 04 vibrates at low speed and idle?

Have someone knowledgeable check the "Cam Phasers" for you. You will often hear a "tic" or "knock" from the engine at low speeds and gradually disappearing at 2000rpm.

This series of parts have been trouble for awhile. Look up "Cam Phaser" articles on the Web.

Idle problem

what engine? # cylinders , displacement.????????????

ok, the EFI is in charge of idle speed at all times.

low speed ,usually means the EGR is stuck wide open

the main valve. clean it ever 50k and no more.

ill list some other common, ways, (not guessing, i do tests)

1: EGR stuck.

2: someone set the ignition timing way retarded

3: the cam timing is way retarded. (zero service caused)

4: flooding,

5: starving for fuel.

6: ISC valve stuck closed.

7: horrid need of a basic tuneup. 60k mile full service scheduled parts.

Low idle/stalling with new timing belt on 1999 Honda CR-v

The engine is a twin cam, one of the cams is not lined up properly. Obiviously the car was running fine before the t/belt replacement, Something the mechanic did is the cause. It is very common with this engine for this to happen. The timing belt covers need to be removed, and the cam gear alignment needs to be checked. Both cam gears have an "UP" mark at the top, and slash marks that should be level with the head when on TDC. If all the marks are lined up, I would have them perform a cylinder leakdown check to see if there are any bent valves. Another way to check the valves is to remove the valve cover and check for very loose valve adjustment. If any valves are bent they won't close all the way causing a gap in the adjustment, and poor performance. Unfortunately the dealership should have found this right away. If I remember correctly the rear cam is off one tooth, retarding the cam timing.
Let me know what they find, Honda Al

Changed timing belt

never done one so i dont know where they are, didnt you paint the gears before stripping??never mind just do this ,remove rocker cover first ,then no1 spark plug.use a long thin screwdriver to watch piston move to TDC then back off a bit and turn cams ,look for slots or a grove on back or front of the cam or two recesses in the camshaft retaining caps jus in case the timing marks are on the cams, then with the valves closed on no1 and the cams have the largest gaps between valves and cam lobe ,bring pisto up to TDC fiot belt and turn engine on a socket and rachet on the bottom pulley twice to ensure the vaves clear the pistons before you try to start
