Question about 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Electric, dome lights, dash display, radio

Just noticed on 94 JGP laredo that dome light in back passenger area was on (even with car off). With these (and front dome lights) you just push the light to turn it on/off. Well it was stuck in. Pushing it at first didn't do anything. It stayed on. Pushing it a few more times I finally got it off (but it is still stuck). I think I might have to take off that top panel to fix anything.

Here are the problems after getting that one off. Pushing on any domelight will someitimes turn on the other. Or sometimes it will turn on the correct one but pushing again to turn off will turn on the other one. Pushing it again now will turn off both. Also my radio clock reset to 12:00. When I turn on the radio it shows the radio for a second then the display goes away with no radio. No tape play. Also when opening driver side door all lights will normally come on but only the lights around driver & front passenger, and the light in very back come on. And there is a strange clicking noise coming from the light by the front passenger's leg area. And the display that shows a pic of jeep that will highlight problems (like a door thats ajar) is no longer displaying anything.

Obviously something electrical went wrong but I have no clue what. Is this just a fuse I need to change? I have no clue what the clicking noise is. Very confused!!!

Bad wire harness connections or worn wires cause short circuit somewhere. Electric wires network needs to be thoroughly checked.

Yes, this is really a electrical problem and changing all busted fuse and checking some electrical will defintely help, but as a piece of advice better ask a electrician take a look on this to properly diagnose and also to prevent further problem with it..

Yes, probably it's a fuse.
Try to remove the fuses one by one and check if there is a broken one and replace it.

1998 Jeep Laredo continuous clicking sound passenger side under dash it runs battery down ignition is off continuous clicking please help thank you

A number of people in the link report the same problem on the Jeep Forum and there are a number of fixes.

I also found this for you.

The problem seems to be a short in one of the rear dome lights, which seems to be affecting two fuse circuits. The temporary solution was to remove one fuse and replace another (blown), and remove the bulb from the bad dome light. I had to remove "fuze#5-15 amps-Interior Lighting", this stopped the clicking noise, I replaced blown fuze#8-15 amp-Overhead Console, keyless Entry ..." This fuse also seems to effect the alarm system (contrary to the documentation), and I think that was what was killing the engine. The problem existed before fuse#8 blew. Removing fuse#5 may have solved the problem, but the other fuse blew while I was testing the dome lights, and the jeep will not start without it.

Found lots of wires bare or broken in all the door wiring harnesses ( in rubber boot that goes to the door)I first checked both fuse 5 and 8 but both o.k. After fixing the broken wires found fuse 8 had blown. Replaced that and all is well again. Thanks for the advise got me looking in the right direction.

. Fuse box located in passenger side door jam...check #8 fuse if its not blown check others...if it is blown, check your radio, and interior lights for good ground
Clicking noise under passenger dash Jeep just shuts down

No power to sterio, over head dome lights, or Dash lights.

I think there should be another fuse for the dash lights and radio and dome (or interior or courtesy it may be designated). Recheck all of those fuses under the dash, I believe one has blown out. This is when a wiring diagram comes in handy-you can see the fuse lay-out, and what circuits each one serves.

Will not start. no dash lights. battery is

Start with a cheaper solution, try cleaning up as many grounds on the vehicle that you can find, good possibility that your problem is just a bad ground somewhere. Check condition of ground strap that goes from the engine to the frame of the car, on my 94 cav it is bolted to a stud at the engine to transmission mount bolts and goes to the frame.

ELECTRICAL

This is a good one. Get your hands on a wiring diagram. What you're looking for is a common wire that possibly links the radio, dome light, and defroster. You're looking for possibly a common power wire. Look for bad grounds under the dash. Mainly look for a common wire between the components. I have seen if one thing goes bad, it would effect things that you wouldn't think had anything to do with it. Honda is good about that.
