VW Jetta Carat 1989 spark plug firing order

1-3-4-2 The missing wire would be for the low oil pressure warning system. The #1 wire on the car is the one closest to the the engine, and the firing order goes 1-3-4-2 clockwise from that.

Went through a puddle. Car died. Restarted a day

See these items:-

The starter must have been bad due to the water.

Bad PCM or ignition coil.

Corroded battery cables.

See timing belt.

Good luck

I was told by the dealership i needed to replace the ignition coil and spark plug wires because my 99 jetta vr6 was misfiring. I did that and now it wont start.

You must verify your work.

1. Test for spark. Make sure the coil is producing spark.
2. Did you remove the plug wires one at a time? If not then check to make sure the firing order is correct.

Whats the order the spark wire goes?

I do not know if you have the 1.8L, 2.0L, or 2.8L; however I have included all three below.

For the 1.8L AND 2.0L:
Fire Order:
1-3-4-2
Cylinders:
.......(back)
1.....2......3......4
......(front)
Distributor:
....(back)
(+)..1
2.........3
......4..(+)-screw
...(front)

For the 2.8L:
Firing Order:
1-5-3-6-2-4
Cylinders:
........(back)
1.......3........5
....2........4........6 (bank offset)
........(front)
Ignition Coil Connections:
(back)
2...5
4...3
