Bad Windows and Door Lock...Please Help

I have a 98 Jetta, and apparently like many others the power windows are failing one by one! I bought it used, so I'm doubting that the extended warranty will apply, has anyone fixed this problem themselves? If so advice would be appreciated!

Also my passenger door is VERY tempermental, sometimes it opens, most times it doesn't, My first guess it that the door clip is falling off a track?!? Again, any advice would be helpful. I'd prefer not to take it to a mechanic so any do it yourself advice would be great!

My Audi A4 is a 99, so they're the same vintage, and the A4s have a fairly common rate of failure for the window regulators. They're easy to change, but usually expensive to buy. You probably will have the most luck on eBay sourcing them at a good price. You remove the door panel ( will probably have a tech article detailing this), unbolt the regulator from the window assembly (in my A4 it's three bolts), and it pops straight out. Disconnect the electrical connector, and reverse the procedure to install the new one.

The driver side door lock broke on my 98 jetta door want open

according to my partsman (who has had great advice for many years), you do not have to remove the door panel to replace the door handle which contains the cylinder lock. the handle is released with a screw which you can see when you open the door. you will need a starhead screwdriver or socket. A new handle costs around $40 at a parts store in my area. call around for a locksmith who will re-key your key to the new lock or use the key which comes with the new lock, your choice. i am in dealing with this also

Check inside wiring by the driver's side door hinge. Remove the rubber boot and you will find broken wires. Make a splice and you are fixed!
