IGNITION COIL WAS JUST REPLACED JUST SHUT OFF TONIGHT OUT OF NO WHERE

  • gieseygirly Feb 27, 2009

I just bought a '89 Chevy S-10 Pickup truck with approx. 177,000 miles. It has new headers and exhaust, among many other new parts. The problem is - I can drive it for five minutes, shut it off, and it won't restart. It will crank very slowly, but will not restart. The battery is fine, and it can be jumpstarted. Anybody have any idea what could be wrong? I've heard something about getting some sort of heat protector for the starter, but am not sure what the heck to do.

Forgot to mention that the truck will only start when jumpstarted. It turns over but very, very slowly.

The speed sensor relay (located on the gearbox) fixed it for me.

Have a comprssion test done, you probably have very high milage and the rings on the piston are wore out because when the engine is hot the cylinders expand and the compression rings are not expanding with the cylinder

Wont start on a hot sunnyday

It is likely a fuel pump problem, confirm this by spraying starting fluid into the engine when the no start occurs, if it fires up then you have a poss fuel pump sticking problem.. This assumes you mean the engine is being cranked over with the starter but does not fire up.

1997 dodge ram wont start hot, starts fine in the cold but in hot weather needs the throttle pumped and sometimes even that wont do it

What is the condition of the starter ? Is this an engine hard to turn over problem when hot ? If so, the starter might be grounding out, this happens only when the casing is hot.
