Question about 1996 Chevrolet Caprice Classic

Driver and passenger mirrors on my 1996 Caprice Classic

Has anyone else experienced this? Couple years ago I was driving and all of a sudden a loud popping noise - my window was rolled down - I felt something hit me but the noise freaked me out it was so loud. I thought I hit something. Then I realized there was some pain in my hand and my left foot. The driver side mirror popped out (it is an automatic) or shot out and hit my left hand and then fell to the floor hitting my left foot. If that wasn't bad enough (and it cost plenty to replace it) just several months ago - about a year after the first incident - loud popping noise, again, freaked me out and intense hit - this time the window was up. The passenger side mirror did the same thing. I am driving with no passenger mirror now because I am not happy about this and those things cost a lot. Seems like after a second time there must be a problem with the design. I really think Chevy should fix it this time.

I agree, unless there has been something done to the car , other than factory installations, such as body work from an accident prior to you owning it or since you've owned it, then liability would be to the last place that did the work. Contacting your local dealer wouldn't be a bad idea, even though it's 13 yrs old now, it still makes you wonder. Your local DMV may be able to give you a site to look into also. Otherwise, try customer service at Chevrolet, and explain to them, and see what happens. have you ownership ready, so they can verify your VIN#. In US, call 1-800-222-1020, and in Canada call, 1-800-263-3777. Let us know how it goes. Be nice, you might get further.

Is there a knock sensor in 1989 caprice classic. If so where is it located. This car has Throttle Body Injection.

The knock sensor screws into the passenger side cylinder head and is also wired into a seperate module on the passenger side fender.
