Pass key fault problem won't let my car start

My car was fine the night I parked it, however the next morning I went to start it up and it would not turn over. I cleaned my key with rubbing alcohol and also with a cotton swab to try to make sure no dirt in the crevices. It still did not turn over. I then got my spare (original) key and it too did not work. Cleaned that key as well. I then talked to a dealership and surprise, they said they couldn't help until it was towed in and they could have a look see but thought it would involve the steering column being removed stating it possibly was the chip in there. Well, I have no job and no money, could be I may lose my house soon and now I won't even have a car to live in! Any ideas on how to get it to run?

Re Clarification Request. The engine does not turn over. Nothing happens other than the idiot lights will light up At first I thought it might be the battery and AAA came out and they checked it - the battery was fine and apparently had nothing to do with my car not starting. Both keys I used and cleaned are both "original" keys.

Hi greasedog - I apologize as I have tried several times to respond to your Clarification Request but don't seem to quite get it to you.

The answer is No - the engine does not turn over, it makes no noise, no clicking or ticking, just nothing. The poor thing is just dead in the water as far as response goes. AAA came out and checked the battery and that is all good. And both "original" keys do not work which seems odd to me as I thought that the key may just have been a little dirty. Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

Ignition feed fuse 16 blows when i turn on the key

You have a 'short circuit' in the system or a bad ground somewhere. Go online and search on the Dodge/Plymouth/Chrysler forums for this issue. I've read about myself but don't recall the common cause.

Can you disconnect the shifter at the transmission and move the shift arm ? Make sure the parking brake is set first.
You may have to disassemble the steering column to un-jam the key cylinder and shifter.

Check transmission fluid. If full then sounds like electrical or internal transmission problem. Any check engine lights on? If so get codes pulled from vehicle computer.

1997 mpv mini van runs great. While traveling i drove from SC to Atl GA....parked and went into motel for evening...the next morning i had very difficult time getting it re started....Like it was not...

I think you should check your battery and alternator. If they both check good you may have a battery draw, something draining the battery over night.Check your doors make sure they are closing like they should.
