Question about 2007 Chevrolet Uplander

Adding a Radio

I will be adding a ham radio to my 2007 Uplander. This vehicle does not have power operated sliding doors, but I notice that there are fuses installed for those circuits. Where would I tap into one of those circuits to use the power that normally would be for the sliding doors? Or if there is a better place to connect to power for the radio, where would it be?

I need to get a circuit that has at least 20 amps.

  • badams30 Aug 26, 2008

One solution was a link to a website with information about the existing radio harness. I need to connect to an existing circuit.

  • badams30 Aug 26, 2008

I took the fuse block assembly out of from the right of the glove box. I'm not sure which wires are the ones that go from the 2 40amp fuses that are for the sliding side door motors. They are not used. What color wires are the ones from the 40 amp fuses?

i have to agree Benimur going direct to the battery would be best for a Ham radio. after looking at the wiring diagrams you dont want to hook into the door fuses. and im not seeing a very good place to draw clean power.
    good luck

Hi,

If I may offer an alternative..
do not use any of the existing wiring. Often they pass several connectors which could introduce low resistance and greatly affect the noise canceling feature and the TX power of the ham radio. Instead, I would suggest wiring the red and black wire directly to the battery terminals (observing polarity). Additionally, I would suggest adding a grounding strap from the chassis/body of the radio to the nearest exposed metal chassis/body of the vehicle.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

There are also power source on the doors aside from the fuses. You can tap it there. Check the link below for instructions and images how to tap and install car audio

Getting shocked when exiting vehicle amd radio is always reset to default when I turn off the car wondering if this is a bad ground and if a engine to chassis or firewall would fix these issues

When an aftermarket radio is installed, the yellow wire should be connected to a constant 12v power source. IF it is connected to a normally off power source (normally off - meaning it isn't working when the ignition switch is off) then it will not keep memory settings and return to the factory settings.

As for being shocked, normal static charge is possible when exiting a vehicle. Try this...open your door and hold your hand on metal (outside of the vehicle) while sliding out of the car...the roof is a good place...do not let go until you are out of the seat. If you don't get shocked, then it is because you are eliminating the arc space between your negatively charged car and your positively charged body.

Adding a ground usually isn't necessary, if the radio ground wire (black) is connected. But adding a ground from the battery to the frame or fender bolt is never a bad thing...ground wires often rust or corrode and prevent electronics from performing at their best...including the ECU (computer brain for your car)

Hi, It seems that when you pulled power from your sliding door(I'm Assuming fuse?) to your radio they were connected.
The best bet if your radio is stock is to look up the users manual and find out which wire comming from the radio is the one used for Time/song memory while your car isnt runnning.

Door chime on 2007 chevy uplander will not stop even when the door is closed properly. Is there anyway to disable it without disabling radio

Had this problem for some time. I have had the dealer replace motor etc. Problem still returns. Noticed that the foam seal around the right side door has started flatening out over time and was beginning to spill into the lipped plate that the door sensor buttons possibly could be prevented from making proper contact. Trimmed approx. 3/8 of an inch off the foam in the area of the plate, and the problem seems to have gone away. Hope this helps.

I would venture a guess that the washer solvent might have been cross contaminated in a container before it was added to your vehicle. As an example: Someone may have used a contaminated container and added solvent to it such as a 55 gallon drum (bought in bulk) as a service station, dealership, or other such establishment, and not from a sealed one gallon container.

The 2009 Saturn Aura added the bluetooth (phone) feature and many other GM models with similar looking radios had it in past model years. The 2007 did not come with bluetooth (or Human Machine Interface).
There are two possibilities: the radio has been changed from another vehicle and is incompatible with your car or locked or your OnStar is malfunctioning. Either situation will require a trip to your friendly Saturn dealership (or Saturn Service Center) to repair.

Hi,
I contacted the Cheverolet dealer where I purchased the vehicle: and there is no solution unless you switch the doors to a manual operation.
