There is a big nut that is part of the fan clutch that unscrews from the water pump .I use a long punch to break it loose then a big adjustible wrench.

RECOMMENDED TOOLS:

Fan Clutch Wrench Part #: J-41240 or J-46406

This can usually be purchased at most Auto Zone or Advance Auto Parts Stores. We can also supply you this wrench with your fan clutch order. Please email or call us and we can add it to you order or you can usually add it when going through checkout. Please call us with any questions 1-866-770-2771

CAUTION: It is not recommended to disconnect the battery on any later model vehicle unless specified in repair instructions. Disconnecting the battery can cause the vehicle computers to lose valuable memory data and can actually cause driveabillity problems. If you do disconnect the battery, a computer relearn procedure must be done to bring vehicle back to normal.
REMOVAL:
Remove Cooling Fan & Shroud

*
Remove the hood latch support
*
Disconnect the transmission cooler lines at the engine and release the lines from the fan shroud. NOTE: Many customers have stated that the cooler lines do not need to actually be disconnected, removing them from the shroud is all that is normally needed to get clearance
*
Remove the 2 upper fan shroud bolts
*
Drain approximatly 1 Qt. of coolant
*
Reposition the upper inlet radiator hose clamp
*
Remove the upper inlet radiator hose from the radiator
*
Remove the electrical connector from the shroud
*
Position the water pump so the bolts are aligned in the vertical position
**Important note** If you cannot get the special wrench or a suitable spanner wrench you may use a really big crescent or 1 3/8 to a 1 1/2 wrench with a hammer after some penetrating fluid. Mine was really torqued.
*
Use the fan clutch wrench to loosen and remove the fan clutch hub nut. NOTE: This is removed by turning it in a counter-clockwise rotation while facing the vehicle. NOTE: The fan clutch wrench has 2 tabs that lock into the water pump to allow you to hold it while using the other piece of the wrench to turn the nut.More tips are below in our customer's installation tips.
*
Unclip the fan shroud from the radiator side panels.
*
Tilt the radiator and the condenser forward
*
Lift the fan and the shroud up and out towards the engine to release the fan from the radiator inlet

*
With the entire assembly out, remove the bolts retaining the fan blade to the fan clutch
*
Seperate the blade from the clutch
**Important note** While you have everthing out check your belt for excessive wear. Easier to install with stuff out out of the way.
INSTALLATION:

* Install the fan blade onto the clutch and install the 4 bolts. Torque these bolts to 20 Ft./Lbs.
* Install the fan & shroud onto the lip of the radiator bottom.
* Install the 2 bolts into the upper fan shroud and tighten to 21 Ft./Lbs.
* Connect the electrical connector
* Clip the fan shroud to the radiator at the side panels
* Install the fan clutch onto the water pump shaft and tighten in a clockwise rotation with the fan clutch wrench. The torque on this nut is 41 Ft./Lbs
* Tighten or re-install the transmission cooler lines and clip them back into the fan shroud
* Install the hood latch
* Install the upper radiator hose and reposition the hose clamp
* Fill the cooling system
* Check with the dealer for any PCM software updates. These are very important!!

NOTE: Some vehicles require the PCM to be updated for a software problem with the fan clutch. You are surely fam

In what direction should the plastic, 8-blade, aftermarket replacement for the metallic OEM fan turn when installed?

Find me helpful, the feathered edge is always the trailing edge. Find my other posts to your same question helpful, The B side, thick edge goes towards the engine on your belt-driven ford ranger fan. This is not rocket science. in-direction-plastic-8-blade-u40lsvyytnuesyuv3fbafhtd-1-0.gifa picture just 4u.

Recommend cleaning the throttle body, and make sure that the rear side is also cleaned, this means removing it from the plenum. Also disconnect the battery while doing the cleaning, this will reset the computer and allow it to relearn.

My fan on my 2002 envoy is staying engaged alot and really loud. How do I determine if it is the fan going bad or a sensor feeding it?

I think the Envoy has the same setup as the Trail blazer and If so its the fan. I replaced the fan on my parents Trail Blazer 2 times in the 7 years they had it . It would start sounding like an air plain taking off when you would first pull out of the driveway

How do I change wiper blades 2001 Chevy blazer

Open the cap at the end of the windshield wiper arm at the cowl of the Blazer. This will reveal the bolt that secures the wiper arm to the wiper linkage.
Unbolt the wiper arm using a 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Place the bolt to the side, as you will reuse it later.
Pull the wiper arm up at the blade so that the blade of the wiper is pointing into the air. Then pull at the base of the arm, wiggling it slightly. It's a keyed gear, so it may take a little bit of workunderlined.png?1 to break it free, but with the right amount of wiggling, it will disengage.

I have a 2006 Chevrolet Trail Blazer. And the heater blower stopped working. I feel a little bit of hot air but not a lot.

If it's not climate controled, (has knobs to turn the blower motor to different speeds), change your blower motor resistor module. Located under the glove box.

Where is the fuel filter located on my 2004 Chevy Trail Blazer? WE

On 05+ Trail Blazer, the fuel filter is integral with the fuel pump inside of the fuel tank. It is a non-serviceable part. On 02-04s, the filter is on the drivers side frame rail at about the B-pillar. If your trail Blazer is a late 04 which means that it was build close to the 05 Trail Blazer, you may have a non serviceable fuel filter. Good luck and check under your Trail Blazer or look at your manufactured date sticker on the door which would help you indicate if your 04 is a early Trail Blazer and you'll have the fuel filter on the inside frame rail under the driver's door.

Cooling Problem With My 97 S10 Blazer

Leave belt on, the fan clutch will loosen in the same direction that the fan turns while engine is running. There is a special wrench for these but, as a help to loosen it, with a heavy hammer and long chisel, place chisel blade near top of nut flat and strike firmly till it loosens in the direction the fan turns. This method is really not recommended as it is a shock load the water pump is not made for.Use care not to hit strait into shaft center. Before replacing fan blade, what caused fan to hit shroud?? Fix that so it don't happen again!Good luck! Freezing and thawing in Michigan!
