Question about 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis

1994 MGM engine stops running at long stoplights

I had replaced the MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR a couple of weeks ago because during cold starts I would have to wait a couple of minutes just to warm up the car before the car could move forward, it would basically **** back and forth and stall before pressing on the gas. Now, that doesn't happpen, after it was replaced no more hesitation, but now I don't hear the engine, no more rough idling, the engine is quiet as if It is about to die on me. While in drive and when at a long stoplight, or railroad crossing, my engine would just shut off, its as if it never reaches idle. I was thinking it can be the AIR BYBASS VALVE but there many names for that. I really think it soething to do with my idling. Anyone please help....I have had my car for four years and I never had a problem until now?!? //

Starts cold then pull out it will die un til it gets good and at running temp done replaced pickup and tried coil it looses its voltage ti coil when this happens.

lots of mystery cold start problems that occur with electronic engine controls are attributed to two items , coolant temperature sensor (not the one that displays on dash) and the mass airflow sensor )these use a heated wire to measure airflow so if its dirty then it don't read the right airflow

I have a 98 Nissan Frontier. It wasn't running right so I unplugged the maf sensor and it ran better. I bought a new one from eBay. Replaced it and now it's running worse than before

check your mass airflow sensor,( located on the air intake line,probably close to where it hooks onto the front of the car on driver side ,should be a square box with wires plugged into it) take intake hose off and spray filiment wire with brake cleaner to clean,do not touch wire with tools or hands it will break very easily ,let dry and replace hose and see if that helps.

Backfires on cold engine start,then goes away as it warms up.

the ECT sensor for the computer could be giving the computer a false temp reading and causing it to happen also..thats why it runs good warmed up... if this does not work, clean or replace mass airflow sensor. good-day ! ECT- engine coolant temperature sensor,

Check for air leaks in the vacuum pipes in and around the inlet manifold, they have a habit if going brittle and splitting.
Another possibility is the temp sender , if the ecu thinks the engine is too cold it will compensate causing the engine to " hunt". This can be something as simple as a worn radiator cap seal letting air into the cooling system and tricking the sensor.

Yeah sound like the Mass Airflow sensor (MAF). This is one of those items you really shouldn't get at a junk yard.

Try cleaning your mass airflow sensor with carb cleaner.Soak it for a couple of hours.Do not soak electrical connector.

When I first start my Jeep each day, I have to let it warm up or it hestitates. It's like it's not getting getting gas. Occasionally, it even stalls. That problem only lasts for the first few minutes that...

It is running lean during cold start mode when the fuel is vaporizing fast enough to keep the engine running.

Either your cold start system is not operating, or your Mass Air Flow Sensor is coated with varnish and needs to be cleaned with carb cleaner. Your engine coolant temp sensor tells your engine computer what the temo of the engine is. The computer then tells the fuel injectors how much fuel to inject. When engine is cold, it injects more fuel to keep the engine running. So, it may be the coolant temp sensor. Autozone can run a computer scan for free and tell you what the fault codes are. However, if the coolant sensor fails to always reading warm engine, the scan may not get a fault code for that.
A coolant sensor should be about $75, cheaper on ebay. Report back on codes and progress.
