Ok, trust me on this one, take the drivers side tire off and remove the forward inner fender panel. If you try it without removing the tire, it is just a royal pain.

I'm back...after completing the battery change.

    1. Remove the drivers side front tire (forget the manual, remove the tire and save yourself a whole lotta pain)

    2. Remove the forward inner fender cover (plastic held in with plastic pins and 2 small fender screws)

    3. Remove the bolts from the side bracket and the battery bracket strap. Twist the battery bracket strap and fully remove.

    4. Slide the battery out about halfway and disconnect the (-) terminal.

    5. Disconnect the (+) terminal and remove the battery.

    6. On the new battery, tape off the (-) terminal so you dont get blasted when you attach the (+) first.

    7. Slide the new battery in about 1/2 way in, connect the (+) term.

    8. Remove the tape from the (-) and attach it.

    9. Slide the battery the rest of the way in, replace the battery bracket strap and the outer bracket.

    10. Replace the inner plastic fender and the tire.

    DONE!

According to the Dodge Service Manual -- you have to turn the left front wheel to the right
then remove the black plastic fender liner. Bad design in my opinion!!!!

I Am pretty sure you have to take off the driver side tire to get to it

It depends on who you go to and if you want it done right. I went to the Dealership and had them put front brakes on my 2008 Dodge Avenger and it has been in the shop every 2-4 months since then for front brakes. They replaced the entire front brake system and my 08 Avenger is still eating brakes. I finally took it to a friend who owns a auto repair shop he replace the rotors which are total about 115.00 for each from AutoZone and replaced the brake pads for 50.00 so it cost me just parts 155.00 and my Avenger is running smoothly since haven't had problems with the brakes since. Go to Midas and let them change it for roughly 89.00 avoid the dealership at all cost they can run 200.00-500.00 depending on if it is just the brakes pads or if it is the rotors and pads.

The battery is in the engine compartment, but is not accessible from the top of the engine compartment. You will need to remove the front, driver-side tire and remove the plastic panel in the wheel well. Good luck.

To reset your maintenance reminder system (even if the light hasn’t come on yet), you’ll need to turn your key to on (but don’t start!) and make sure your odometer is on TRIP A. Then key off. Press and hold the Odometer/Trip button. While holding down on the button, key the ignition to on (Don’t start the engine!) The display panel will count down from “------“ to “-“Continue pressing the button until the Trip A is displayed. After this step, you are done.

SOURCE: 2008 dodge avenger spark plug location and socket size.

  • 2008+ Dodge Avenger 2.4L 4cyl.
  • Remove plastic cover on top of engine, just pull on each corner for it is friction fit.
  • Once removed you will see 4 black spark plug covers with one hex type screw holding each.
  • Remove Hex screw and place aside, pull upward to remove plug boot from plug.
  • To remove the plug, use a 5/8 socket with a 6" extension. Once plug has been turned out all the way and you cannot get the plug up and out of the hole, just press the plug boot back on the plug and pull it back up.
  • Gap and replace 4 plugs with the same or equavalent type,. Drop plug down the hole and use socket to align and tighten until just snug, then torque to manufactures specifications.

Disconnect negative battery cable first then positive then remove battery hold down screws and install in reverse. Use rubber gloves to prevent battery acid with skin contact. I prefer using rubber pliers on negative battery cable. I feel its safer. When putting negative battery cable on, place on holding rubber part not the metal contacts.

It is in the drivers side fender well in front of the tire, it is mounted to the front frame rail. You have to remove the plastic fender lining to get to it.
