    Hi.

We have some kind of electrical problem that hosed the battery (fans etc come on when we turn the key on and something seems live all the time). I got a new battery today. The car started once, immediately. We took battery out and put it back in and now Jeep won't start at all. 1999 Jeep Cherokee, 4 litre. It turns over perfectly, but doesn't seem to start the gas. I tried locking and unlocking the doors in case we had triggered the security system. I also tried getting the engine code. I think what we heard was 33. Any suggestions. It's my daughter's and we have to get it running.

    Thank you, in advance.

Does unh unh unh mean it is turning over? or is this sound different than when you normally crank it?

Engine wont catch

Catch?
cranks fast
starts every time.
idles fine hot or cold , or both? hot idle not too fast.
i race engine , in park and neutral, I can hit 3500 rpm easy, can you.
i release brakes, (brakes are not packed in ICE , are they?)
I select 1gear or reverse (A/T or m/t)
the car moves or dont move, which is it, my guess catch = no move at all.
I try to drive, i look at RPM and MPH
RPM moves up and MPH track.
track means they both move in a linear progression.
RPM rises and for all RPM increases MPH also increases.
does it?
if all that works then we have an engine power issue.
weak on hills?

Temp. gauge don't move past half on 1996 VW Jetta

Sounds normal. If the gauge moved further over, it would indicate an overheating problem, wouldn't it? Check that engine is at normal operating temperature after it warms up. If it is running too cold, your thermostat might be stuck open.

I have a 1996 Plymouth Breeze... That won't start,

Hi, this sounds like a bad fuel pump. I would have the fuel pressure checked. Sometimes Autozone will let you borrow a fuel pressure gauge to check your fuel pressure. Just unscrew the cover from the pressure port on the fuel rail and screw on the pressure gauge. Put a rag over your hand while screwing it on to avoid getting fuel sprayed around. Lay the gauge in a safe place and start the car. Read the gauge, record the reading, turn the car off and remove the gauge. If the pressure is less than 35 psi, you need a new fuel pump. Please let me know if you have questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

I went out to move my 2005 cavalier and when I shifted from reverse to drive, it slipped right thru everything and wouldn't catch. It wouldn't even catch in park. I pulled the parking break and...

I don't know beans about automatice transmissions and the average person can only check the fluid levels and take it to a transmission shop if it is more serious.
As far as the engine goes, you need to localize the problem because with the other indications it might not be the normal stuff. So, what I would recommend is that you take the serpentine belt off and try to turn the crank with a large wrench (CW only) with the car in neutral. If you can turn it, then it is probably not your engine freezing up. If it won't turn then the transmission is probably not disengaging from the flywheel - maybe the torque converter.

If it does turn over, then you can put the belt back on and try to jump start the car with another vehicle or the boost function on a battery charger. It it starts then you know to look at the charging system - battery, alternator. If it doesn't start then the starter or the starter reley.

Car wont start

Probably the battery. Try jump starting it. Check to see if you left anything on overnight (dome light, etc.)
