Question about 2004 Suzuki Forenza

1 Answer

Engine problems I recently bought an used 2004 Suzuki Forenza with 65,000 miles. It is a beautiful car but I have taken it back to the dealer 4 going on 5 times to fix the following problem. It started off that the check engine light would come at random times. I took it up to the service dept. and they hooked it up to the computer and didn't find anything wrong so I brought it home. They suggested that if it happened after I got gas that maybe the gas cap wasn't tight. The check engine light continued to come on so I got gas making sure that the gas cap was on tight. The check engine light went off so I left to go up to Williamsport, PA. 20 minutes into the trip the check engine light came on and stayed on the whole trip up and back. I took it back to the service dept. They did something to the fuel line and sent us back home. Once I got home the engine would not start. It would turn over but didn't completely start. Once it started it was very rough. Again back up to the service dept. I was told just to step on the gas petal that maybe it wasn't getting enough gas. On a fuel injected engine, I thought that this was dumb but I said that I would do it and off home we went. Of course the problem still existed so I kept calling and it finally went to a Suzuki Dealer. They put in a cam sensor and off home we went. Now it starts every other time. When it doesn't start, it will after about 6 tries and then it runs very rough, like it is going to stall out at any given moment. We are back up tomorrow to the service dept. I need some advice. Can anyone help with this problem? Thanks. Martha

I bought an 04 suzuki forenza with 65,000 miles about 6 months ago. It turns over about 4 or 5 times then starts. It has been doing this for about a month and 3 or 4 it wouldn't start at all. I've noticed thou when it won't start if i get a jump, it starts. The battery light is bright green and i have had the battery tested and it is fine. When it starts acting up the gas gadge won't read the gas correctly and shows less then what i really have. The check engine light goes on and off weekly.

I have the same problem and the car registers several different codes that my husband is trying to tackle one code at a time. Now last night, after the check engine light has been on for a couple of weeks, I was driving home and the call acted like it was going to stall and lights all dimmed and when it recovered the light was off. This issue is concerning and sort of a phantom issue. When I get the codes, I will post them and see if we can get some good answers.

My check engine light just came back on...I will get the code and post here. Does anyone know about a switch you can flip on the 2004 Forenza that will turn that light off? I have read with several different year/models of Suzuki that has some kind of a switch that you flip every so many miles that resets the light. I have looked for one to no avail. I tried to take the column apart yesterday and couldn't figure that one out either.

My check engine light goes on and then off all the time. I have had it looked at and they tell me it is the gas cap, so the cap gets replaced and the problem does not go away. I have taken it to a friend that works on cars and he hooks it up to the monitor and it brings up 3 different codes, he checks all of them and resets the codes and BINGO the light comes back on. Now I have a problem with the fuel gauge, sometimes it doesn't register that I have gas (when I know I do) and it will slowly move when you are driving.

Just wanted to let you know that I have the same problem with my 04 Forenza. Sounds like some kind of conspiracy.

Same problem, Mine has 45k miles and has been in and out of the shop for over a month now. Had it not start at all 3 times (this morning being the third) but normally it just takes 3-6 tries to get it to start and stay on. Either it will start and then stall out or it will start and rumble so hard that the whole car shakes terribly. If I can get it to the point where I can hit the gas then it will stay on and run great once it stays on. I've had the injectors replaced, Spark plugs replaced twice, coolant temp gauge, ignition coil, o2 sensor all replaced. The car was originally taken in for a coolant leak which was fixed by replacing the water pump (also the timing belt was replaced at that time) and I got it home and the next morning it didn't start. It seems the longer I let it sit without starting it the harder it is to start.... longer than 8 hrs and it won't start at all. Please help if you have any idea, I can't afford to keep fixing this car!!!

My daughter had her oil changed on her 2004 Suzuki Forenza today and now her RPM soars when she try's to accelerate over 15 MPH and the engine coolant fill is steaming (her description by phone).

i would bring it back to the garage that change the oil. they may have broke something or unplugged something, and i would check the oil level to see if they put oil in

Would you say suzuki forenza 06 is a good car to buy?

They have been doing well and there problems are fewer than most. Sounds like you have a pretty good car. Have those trouble codes checked and repaired though so it does'nt cause problems down the road. Good luck.

Suzuki forenza

I have had the same problem recently. I did some searching on the internet and came up with nothing. I went out to my car and decided to take a look at the gas cap. I noticed that after turning it and hearing the clicks that are supposed to tell you it is tight, the cap came off again with no effort at all. I brought the gas cap to Advance Auto Parts and I found out that the spring mechanism inside the top of the gas cap was worn from use. This was causing the vapors to leak out inturn causing the check engine light to come on. I bought a replacement STANT gas cap (specifically for the 2006 Suzuki Forenza) for $9 and the light has been off for the past two weeks. The dealer wanted $80 to diagnose the problem and then another $30 if they needed to order a gas cap. So, I decided $9 was better to waste then $110 trying to figure out the problem. I hope this helps.
