Question about 1991 Pontiac Sunbird

1 Answer

1991 pontiac sunbird ignition problems.

I stopped at a stop sign, the car chugged for half a second and died. I replaced the coil after determing that the distributor was not getting a spark. Power is going into the coil but not generating a spark out of the coil wire. Checked all my relay switches and they are fine. I am at a loss as to what else it could be. Oh the distributor does turn when trying to start it. Just not getting enough power to generate a spark? Faulty distibutor? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Allan

you have to remove the intake tube and then it should expose the ignition system on the drives side of the cylinder head... or... follow the spark plug wires...

My 1991 pontiac sunbird runs fifteen mins then dies ive changed fuel pump, fuel pressure reg. , ecm coil, fuel filer after i try and start it back up i have no fire n no gas??????????

The first things I need to know are which engine do you have, and what have you actually tested so far ?
If it has no power or ground pulse to the injectors and no spark, the problem would be something that controls both such as a crank or cam sensor. Or a relay. Or the ignition module. And so on.

check for the fuel filter to be clogged. Then check the air filter. If this was at all helpful, please rate. Thanks for asking.

Rough idle and/or stalls while at stop light. Check engine light comes on.

the ignition coil and or the ignition control module is out. you can pull the plug wire to find out wich cylinder it is. Then replace the proper coil. most parts stores can test the module.
