Question about 1993 Mercury Topaz

1 Answer

93 Topaz A/C recharge

I have a 93 Topaz which doesn't blow cold air from the a/c, and I assume it needs to be recharged. I was thinking of using Duracool to do it.

2 questions:

Is it ok to use that stuff?

and

Where is the port located? I am not sure where to look for it.

The port is either on the drier or just follow the largest a/c line.It is usually on or close to the drier.Sometimes the port has a blue cap on it.The low pressure side is the biggest line.Duracool is said to be more efficient than r-134a so it would be ok I would think.

Air not blowing

You just need a recharge.Go to an auto parts store and get a single can of R12 and the recharge line.Find the fitting on the AC line that the recharge line fits on(there's 2 but only fits 1)and hook the end on the can then on the fitting.THEN screw the puncture screw into the can lid to puncture the top of can, then turn that screw back out to release the Freon into the line and into system. To be sure you get all the Freon out of the can, stick the can in a small bucket of hot water while it's recharging your system. That's an old timers trick I use and it works.Once empty, remove the line from the fitting on the system first, remove the can from the line and save the recharge line.Ya may need it again one day.Engine must be running with AC on full when recharging the system.Stay Cool dude.

A/c blowing hot air with low pressure

The first thing to do would be go to your local auto parts store and buy an air conditioning recharge kit. Provided your vehicle isn't too old, they sell recharge kits that require no tools.

If their is a leak anywhere while you recharge, you will know.

Try recharging the air conditioning first, it is very simple and the kits come with simple instructions.

If there are no leaks, your A\C will blow cold air again. As for the pressure, if it continues to slightly blow air you may be looking at a new air compressor unit or a vaccum line. A new unit will run you anywhere from $200-$2000 dollars plus labor depending on the vehicle.

If the recharge works, at least you will have slightly blowing cold air rather than hot and you can continue that way until the unit fails.

2006 Silverado went from blowing cold to hot. I think it might be the compressor but I don't want to spend 300 bucks if I don't have to any ideas???????

If your air conditioner needs recharging it is because the refrigerant chemical is leaking out of the system. Many people think that air conditioners naturally leak refrigerant, so they assume they have to take the car in every year for recharging. This is not true. The refrigerant is not supposed to leak. If the refrigerant is low, find and repair the leak. There should be no reason for a recharge.

The ac on my 2008 dodge nitro will only blow hot air

Check for a clogged line. Judging that the car is relatively new I don't think it would really be that. It probably just needs a recharge. Head to your local auto parts store and grab some an AC recharge kit. Doesn't take long at all and is relatively cheap.

Air conditioner not blowing cold air

go to a parts store such as Advance Auto Parts or Auto Zone and buy the A/C recharging kit they have with the rubber line and connector that connects only on the side that you need to recharge your system. If you can put air in your tires you can out freon in your a/c system.

Air conditioner blows cool air but it does not blow cold air.

Start by recharging your system. If you want to do it yourself. Most auto parts stores and hardware stores have recharge kits. Purchase a kit with a gauge to prevent overfilling.
