Question about 1997 Pontiac Sunfire
I need to know about my car, please. I just bought it. When I come to a stop my oil light comes on. I went about a mile away and on my way back it started making a loud banging noise and died. I started it back up and put it in drive then it died again. I started it back up and put it in drive with my foot on the brake and one on the gas, I could take off. It continued to make this noise as I drove it home. The oil was just changed this weekend, and I keep checking to make sure that is ok. Could this problem be the oil pump or is my motor blown up? Please help me out. Thanks, Nina
Sure sounds like the engine has a failed bearing, most likely a rod bearing, the engine will need to be pulled out and repaired or replaced depending on how much damage you have done driving it.
