If you have replaced alternator and battery and belts are tight .but light is still on then you can go to a parts place and they can double ck your alternator to see if it is putting out the correct amps ,and then if your prob is solved you can disconnect battery for 2 or 3 mins and should clear light on dash.if not then take it to someone with hand held computer to clear trouble code

We changed the alternator and now we have a red light in the dash for battery

Car dies and battery light comes on

If the light is on when car is running, the alternator is still not working. Check your power distribution center near the battery for any fuses out. Maybe there is an alternator fuse.
Is your battery good? A completely dead battery may not take a charge from the alternator. It needs to be charged off the car. Have it load tested at a parts store to see if it's good.
Is your alternator belt tight? A loose belt won't let the alternator work to capacity.

My battery light came on dash of ford transit connect, lights slowly dimmed dash lights slowly dimmed then van stopped.jump started to get home.battery is original 9yrs old do i need a new one?

first check connections on battery and alternator make sure tight clean and there is no damage or breaks also check belt is tight and not slipping or damaged the battery light can mean battery not charging or alternator not putting out a charge if a boost got u home i would lean towards alternator problem [have tested though as well as battery most auto stores usually offer this service for free ]

2005 freestyle - charging system light came on and dash lights went crazy. Car would not start-headlights and dash lights would not go out.

SOUND LIKE ALTERNATOR PROBLEMS CHECK BATTERY CABLES. MAKE SURE THEY ARE CLEAN AND TIGHT.CHECK DRIVE BELT MAKE SURE ITS NOT LOOSE OR DAMAGED.IF ALL LOOKS GOOD CHECK ALTERNATOR VOLTAGE OUT PUT AT BATTERY WITH CAR RUNNING.BATTERY VOLTAGE SHOULD BE 13.5 - 14.5 VOLTS. IF NOT ALTERNATOR IS FAULTY.

I pulled my van into a friends house yesterday, turned off the engine and then lost power to everywhere. Nothing works anymore and of course won't start up

First off check the fuses under the dash. And make sure battery terminal connections are tight and clean.Check for proper tension (roughly 1/2 inch of deflection) on Alternator belt and that belt is present.Sounds like there is a alternator issue.Did your battery light come on while driving? Have a friend jump start you (follow safe jumpstart procedures or you could damage your friends car or yours ie:Ignition key off,Postive cable goes on first when attaching cables, negative cable comes off first when discconnecting cables. Let charge for 15 min or so before trying to start your vehicle ) If it starts look for a battery light on the dash. If no battery light is on then alternator is probably ok and battery is bad (take it out and have it tested at your local autoparts store). If the light is on then you have an alternator problem. To confirm alternator problem check output voltage across battery terminals. Should be min 13.5-14.5 no more than 14.5 If you have to replace the Alternator make sure battery is good and has a full charge and negative batt. cable is disconnected,if not you could potentially ruin you r new alternator

Battery light on dash stays on

Hi Richard,

Check the belts, specifically the one attached to the alternator. It should be tight.

Next, if you have a volt meter, check the battery with the ignition off. It should be 12VDC.

Start the engine, check the voltage again. This time it should be at least 13.5VDC.

If there is no difference the alternator may need to be replaced

Best regards,
Mike

Dim battery light on dash when i'm driving.

Battery doesnot get charge due to dead alternator or loose serpentine belt. If you in US go to nearest Autozone store and check the battery for volatge and alternator for charge. If both fine check the serpentine belt if it is tight enough
http://www.ehow.com/how_2279100_check-serpentine-belt.html?ref=fuel&utm_source=yahoo&utm_medium=ssp&utm_campaign=yssp_art
If it is fine check the connections of alternator and battery for corrosion. Corrosion can increase the resistance and decrease the electrical current
