2002 Ford SVT Focus Logo

My SVT FOCUS temperature gage keeps going to the red. I changed the thermostat and it's still trying to overheat. I have a Haynes book on FOCUS 2002 to 2005 however; it does not explain how to change the antifreeze an 2002 SVT. I'm sure it's a sealed system. I have a 2003 Cobra and it has a sealed system also however; the Cobra has a weeping system that allows all the air to come out as you fill it, it's next to the supercharger. I don't know if the FOCUS has a similar system. I refilled the sealed reservoir and the coolant is not getting hot. Could you give me some advice? Respectfully SSgt Evans US Air Force

The radiator fan is most likely to blame. When the temp goes above the normal level the fan should kick on.. If it does not, you need to troubleshoot the rad fan. (Under hood etectrical box, fuse / relay/ etc.)
Also there are 2 of them (fans). The 2nd one is a booster for when the AC is on, to dissapate more heat. Try turning on the AC and see if 2nd fan kicks on. This can often help prevent serious overheating.
Good luck.

Sounds like the fan itself is bad, turning on when called, but cutting off when it gets hot in few mins.

Hi,
Could you please just clarify a few things:
1-Is the fan coming on before the gauge goes to red?
2-Is the replacement thermostat original?
3-Is the water coming out of the overflow pipe
4-Have you checked the water and oil to see if there is any white residue?

If you can get back to me with these I am sure I can help

Thank you

I had this problem. Solution was get a new thermistor (spelling is correct). It's a plug in temperature switch at the top of the rad. Many people say getting a new tad solves it but most new rads come with a new thermistor. No doubt. Cheap too.

My heater isnt working, the temperature gage flucuates, and it keeps telling me it has low coolant even though I just added coolant

low coolant sensor is probably just dirty. cold air could also indicate n air bubble in the line. could also be thermostat. try that first.

I have a 97 GMC Jimmy that keeps trying to overheat. We've replaced the water pump and the coolant temp gauge however its ranging from half to 3/4 temperature. Is it possible that a sensor could be...

It could be a few things - stuck thermostat , bad sending unit , bad gauge in
the dash.

I would HIGHLY suggest going to a parts store and buying a Haynes repair
manual ( about 25 bucks ) before you do anything else.
It will give you step by step instructions / diagnosis on this problem and a whole lot more !
Well worth the money.

2002 focus overheats very quickly (within 2 blocks). changed fan motor relay, thermostat, flushed coolling system and this still happens, although now a little longer till it overheats (6 blocks).. Ran...

Sounds to me like the impeller in the water pump is corroded bad enough that you now have no volume of water flow.If a pressure test on the cooling system shows no leaks and the rad fan does in fact run then this is the most likely solution,if the fan does not run you may need a temperature switch or a fan motor.

Cooling fan operation

sounds to me like the thermostat is sticking and allowing the car to overheat. with the a/c on the fan comes on and runs constantly to keep the engine cool

Temperature gage rises and engine overheats on our honda accord. thermostat has been changed and it is not any better. whats next?

The next thing to do is to observe the car as it idles for 10 minutes to ensure the electric radiator fan is coming on if not replace the fan relay if that doesn't work replace the coolant temp. sensor that activates the relay that activates the fan after that ti can only be the fan itself that is if the fan is not coming on.
