Question about 2005 Volkswagen Microbus

2 Answers

2.5i Microbus I have a 1991 2.5i microbus. About 6 months ago I removed the fuel pump to borrow to a friend who has a 2.6i. It stood all the time. About two weeks ago, I put in a new Bosch pump and it ran for about two weeks. Suddenly on Friday night it wouldn't go again. The engine turned but did not fire. On Sunday I got it to run by advancing/retarding the the distributor slightly to get it to idle, but this morning (Monday) it wouldn't start again. It turns and fires but then shuts down. It seems as if the fuel is not continuous. Could it be the pump or accumulator? Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks. Edmund

No fuel getting to engine. Possibe fuel pump. Replace fuel filter with aftermarket brand 6 months ago.

possibility that's it's the pump, the fuel pump relay, check the relay and pump for power/ground etc.
Although you changed the filter 6 months ago i wouldn't X that as a possibilty, i always try to change parts with Ac Delco or another OEM equivalent brand.
Could also be injectors, test the resistance at each one, however if none are giving gas then it's extremely rare that they all died at once.

If i stop or let idle i feels like its being starved for fuel.. turn off the engine and start it again it runs fine till i stop again. Just replaced the fuel pump a week ago and has been running fine.

Mine did that to me about 4 months ago. I started by changing the fuel filter it ran great for a month. but by doing that it released all the pressure off of the fuel pump which then went out. If you run your vehicle below 1/4 tank it starves the fuel pump. The pump needs that fuel because; The fuel is the lubrication for the pump. Running your tank down consistently over a period of time will short the pump out faster.
