Question about 1994 Geo Metro

1 Answer

Swapped motor in '94 metro 4 cyl.

I bought a 1994 metro 4 cyl. that someone swapped the motors in and they didn't change any of the sensors over. now the car will accelerate with just a little gas but if you crowd the pedal just a little to much it bogs down and loses a lot of power, but it has all new exhaust and belts and everything but it still wont go. is there any sensors that would cause it to do this?

Check the mass airflow sensor and the throttle position sensor - either of those would cause similar problems if they're reading incorrectly.

Can I put my 1995 camry motor in a 1998 camry

The short answer is yes if both are the same size.
You should be able to swap a 4 cyl for a 4 cyl and V6 for V6 but some of the wiring and manifolds may be different.
A salvage yard can tell you for sure, they have the books.

I took motor/tranny out of well maintained/well running 1994 Geo metro xf and installed them in a 1995 geo metro LSI. everything went well i had to use the 1995 intake and throttle body due to wiring...

Yes, because the specs are different... most manufatures change the specs on vehicles every four years, so 90-94 is most likely all the same, but then you will have 95-99 an so on an so on.. Good Luck

I want to change my 4.9 6 cyl to a 302 v8 1990 150 ford

A donor truck is a good idea, but the transmission, bell housing, cross members and transmission mounts will all be the same as long as you dont go from manual to auto or opposite. motor mounts will be different tho. i put a manual trans off of a 94 F-150 with a 300 6-cyl into my 91 bronco with a 351 V8 (5.8L) and used all the mounts and crossmembers off of the 94. only thing is the petal assm was different due to body changes. and the 5.8L also has a 11" clutch **** and the 5.0L and 4.9L both use a 10" disk. the bad thing is you will have a ton of stuff to change like the ECU, and engine harness and and other then the Ypipe and converters the exhaust will work. such a project is not for the faint of heart.

94Metro Has a bad vibration at idle, gets worse in gear stopped

check all motor mounts first. if they are ok then check to make sure all cylenders are firing. try pulling one plug wire off the spark plug and see if the engine changes sound or anything. if it does, put the wire right back on then move to the next one and repete. if you pull one and it does not change then that plug is not firing. could be caused by a crack in the porcelian in the plug or bad plug wire connection or bad wire

Engine

I think the 97 uses a crank sensor where the 94 doesn't. (not sure) I don't see any reason you can't just leave it unhooked. I put a 92 engine in a 94 but because of the differences in the emission controls, I had to use the 94 intake and injection system. It worked out fine. Still driving it. Some advice, while you have it apart, clean the EGR valve and journals especially the ones going from the exhaust manifold to the EGR valve (driver side of motor). That is a common problem with these cars and it usually ends up ruining the engine. (My experience is with the 3 cyl model).

1994 Geo Metro manufacture date

Most cars that I've seen have a decal in the driver's door jamb, either on the door or the car's body, which shows a month and year of manufacture. If not there, check the passenger side jamb. If neither side has the decal, you can call the dealership and ask them to tell you the build date by looking it up using your VIN number.
