Question about 1985 Dodge Ram 3500

85 dodge ram wont start

Have an 85 dodge 150 with a 360 engine that wont start, it turns over, but not on.  will sit there trying but not kick on.  it started spitting gas out the carb and then flames.  we just replaced the plugs, wires, dist. cap and rotor.
Trying some other things, we checked the distributor itself, not trying to get the distributor out, we took off the alignment screws for the  ( cant remember the real name) magnets, of course dropped one and now cant figure out how to the the distrbutor out to get the screw out.  From the sounds of it from the Chiltons manual, we will need to get the timing fixed now since that stuff is moved, but not sure.
Need to get the alignment screw out of the bottom of the distributor, and cant see it, then figure out why it wont start.  Thinking the Coil too, so should have left well enough alone with the distributor, but like a curious cat....
any thoughts, ideas, suggestions, and help is greatly saught after.

First thing you will need to do is get that screw out.. to remove dist. there is one bolt that holds a flange pinching the bottom of the dist. in place. the dist will pull straight out from there. make sure not to rotate crank or move vehicle while dist. out.... Sounds like your initial problem was that your timing chain has skipped or jumped gear, thats why you were getting flames up through the carb. Hope this help, any more info I can give... just ask.

You may want to recheck your plug wires. You could have put them in the wrong places.

2002 dodge ram won't start if you step on gas peddle before starting it. What causes this? If you wait a couple of hours it will then start

Fuel injected engines don't need to be pumped before starting, if you do flooding can occur. Make a conscious effort NOT to touch the pedal until after you turn the key to the start position and the engine actually starts.

I need to download either a service manual or a complete wiring diagram for a 1997 dodge ram 1500 5.9L V8?

Fuel pump. I just pulled apart the dead fuel pump from my Astro today. Looking at the motor, it would have to land on one position only in order for it to have restarted as the brushes contacts on 3 of the 8 windings had worn down. Likely you could get the engine to fire if you used starting fluid, but it wouldn't stay running.

Where is the location of the power module in a 85 ram 50?

2.0L & 2.6L Gas Engines, the Module/ECM can be found under the dash on the right side of the truck, bolted to the kick panel. Usually Gray, Silver or Gold in color. It is a Carburetor Control Module (part of the Emissions system)
--
2.3L Turbo Diesel Engine, There are 2 Modules for this model.
A Glow Plug Contoller, located on the Right Kick Panel. A Fuel Heater Controller, located on the Left Kick Panel, Near the fusebox

85 dodge ram 50 2ltr 4cl 4sp wont start.....i

first thing clean battery connectors an post with baking soda an water solution an a piece of sand paper to get any rust off, keeping cables disconnected, next go under truck to where the starter is,an disconect the battery cable wire from starter an clean with sandpaper to get any debris off, check wires for cracks in the plastic covering,an check all wires leading from starter to battery an selenoid, another solution take hammer an hit starter a few times not to hard then try starting truck if that works it means you have a dead spot in your starter an need to replace it which is not hard.

I have an 85 Power Ram 50. Has the electronic

If you drive it very little what I would recommend is to install an electric fuel pump. That way after its been sitting all you have to do is turn the key on and the pump will fill the carb.

Help

It may be a bad starter or the starter solenoid. If by not starting you mean it will not turn engine, but if the engine is turning then the starter is turning so it is something else all together.
Starters will usually work when they are cold then once warm or hot they will not work.
Hope this helps!
