1992 nissan pathfinder se transmission will not engage in any gear

Hello, I bought 93 pthfndr. Dude said, was at a light, went to go and clunked, then no forward or reverse since. Checked fluid lvl, and smells ok. I was thinking broken gear or shaft because of the clunk dude spoke of. I pulled tranny, ready to replace but, is it possible for an electrical problem ie: bad solenoid, sensor or relay to cause a clunk? I'm thinking not, but, then again, I'm no mechanic. Any thoughts? Thank *** for sites like this! auto, 4x4

1992 pathfinder, was driving 20 m.p.h. and the transmission became disengaged in all gears. No noise, it just disengaged like I put it in neutral.
    Please advise.

I went to get in my 1992 Nissan Pathfinder 4x4 and I could not get it out of Park. I forced it and it was drivable to home. When I got home, it would shift into every gear but it wont lock into park and I cant get the key out. My buddy said there is something on the brakes (sensors, relays, electrical switch) that is stopping the linkage to go into park. Where do I look 1st, 2nd, 3rd?

How do I adjust transmission bands on 1992 Nissan pathfinder

suggest that you get a copy of a workshop manual and access to some small reading torque wrenches ( inch pounds). Talk with an accredited auto specialist shop as it may be cheaper to have them do it for you.

I have a 1992 nissan pathfinder 4x4 se automatic and it does not want to downshift when i am accelerating and starts out in 2nd or 3rd gear from a dead stop

Is the hold/normal/power button on the dash is in the hold position that is what it will seem like because that is what it does, holds in second gear for ice and snow starts.
So make sure the button is in the normal (middle) or Power position (right side pressed in).

I have a 87 5 speed pathfinder and the gears started to go on the transmission . now the transmision wont go into any gear.

Hi Robert,I have 85 Nissan 4x4,know these Nissan's very well, you stated your clutch fluid in reservoir was empty, which means your clutch slave cylinder is bad and leaking. It's located on the side of transmission with 2 bolts holding it on,may have fluid on it,they use brake fluid. Here's a guide on how to replace, here's the part, very easy to replace. You can fill up with fluid and bleed to get you where you need to go,will hold up temporary, best to get a bleeder kit at Autozone to bleed.

Nissan pathfinder automatic transmission not engaging in any gear while car is running.

This only means one thing if the fluid hasn't leaked out, the transmission has failed and will need to be rebuilt.

4x4 low engagement

Ok let me be frank cshoxie I had actually owned a 1998 Nissan Pathfinder SE. The 4x4 lever is to the left of the gear shift. It looks like a manual tranmission gear shift. I could have engaged my even in DRIVE at LOW speeds. But wans't recommended by manual. However on the shift has 4-low and 4 HIGH but this vehicle would only go in 2-wheel and 4H.

2002 nissan pathfinder se

I have a feeling you have the transmission extremely over full. I actually am pretty familiar with maintenance service. When you drain the system off the pan you only retrieve about 35% of the fluid. I would start by checking the level on the stick agian and confirm it. If its over full drain it agian and add 4 qts for starters. Start the truck and with the brake pedal compressed place gear selecter in each gear for 10 seconds then return to park and check level agian. Total transmission capacity is 9qts. and the preferred fluid is DEXRON III / MERCON.
