Replaced distributor in 95 jetta, now it won't start

I replaced the distributor in my 95 jetta because of 2 sensors tripping the check engine light. Now the car won't start. The battery light and oil light stay on. Tried jumping but didn't help. Any little things that need to be done when the distributor has been changed?

I found that the rotor was facing the wrong direction. I spun it 180 degrees and it worked. It is still running choppy, but saw the drive cycle has to be retrained? I also tried to turn off the check engine light by disconnecting the battery, but it didn't work.

Have you checked the connections to the new distributor, are they clean and tight, no damaged pins or wires pulled out of pins?

Go back to bacic timing. put your crack shaft pully on 0 degree. Take the timing belt cover off and make sure that with the crank shaft pully is on o degree the cam shaft pully is align with a mark it has at 12:oo o'clock. If not so, turn the engine one more time using a 12 point 19mm sucket on the crank shaft till you get to 0 again. Do it very slow, it's very presice. when you align those two marks, then take the distribuitors cap off. Rotor should be pointing at cylinder 1 exactly on it. There is mark on the body of ignition to confirm this. Hope this does it. Also check if your cables are mixed up.

Most probab;ly u got the firing order mixed up when u replugged ur wires. Firing order is 1 4 3 2. Cyl one is opposite end of transmission, so tu ur left when facing the engine. Possible ur MASS AIR FLOW is defective or the air hose from the air filter box to intake if u have a 2 litre engine. Tell me wut motor u have and how many miles on it.

No the idle relearn process should not make the engine run "choppy", also if the check engine light stays no matter what then you have a hard fault, either a component that is disconnected or failed completely, run a test and get the code post it here and I will research it for you.

If the sensor is in the dist, the dist shaft could be worn and slowly damaging the new sensor.
Could also be a new problem.

I have a 2004 VW Passat the engine light came on had it diagnosed the code is P0322 what does it mean and how is it fixed? Thanks

Symptoms- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Lack/Loss of Power
- The engine may be harder to start
- The engine may stumble or stallPossible causes- Ignition/Distributor engine speed sensor harness circuit is open or shorted
- Ignition/Distributor engine speed sensor poor electrical connection
- Faulty Ignition/Distributor engine speed sensor
- Faulty Crankshaft Position sensor
- Low battery charge
- Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)When is the code detected? The P0322 code is triggered when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects no signal.P0322 VOLKSWAGEN DescriptionIgnition failure sensor is used to check whether the spark ignition is occurred correctly or not and also used to tachometer drive. The sensor monitors the voltage difference between a resistance which is on the battery circuit for ignition coil. When the ignition coil works properly, the electric current through the resistance is detected as voltage drop. This is confirmed for every ignition event with the crankshaft sensor and the camshaft sensor. If ECM detects a malfunction, no ignition is possible, so the engine would not start. If there is no ignition signal for a predetermined cycle for one or two ignition coils, an ignition coil circuit failure exists.

if no crank sensor by timing cover, some vehicles are controlled at the distributor. the 95-96 have sensor by cover . before 1995 this its controlled by distributor. there is no "crank sensor" on that engine the pick-up coil inside the distributor acts as the crank reference for that engine. have a good day !! 4.3 vortex engine.

95 dodge caravan with no start problem.

Connect a timing light to the number one plug wire and crank the engine. Does the light flash indicating that the Number one is firing? Look at the distributor. If you have a distributor cap and rotor assembly remove the distributor cap and crank the engine. If the rotor turns check the rotor to make sure there is a good contact point and check the distributor cap to ensure there are good contacts. If either is damaged or worn replace them both. If the rotor does not turn you have a broken timing belt or one of the timing belt/chain guides has jammed and the engine needs to be rebuilt.

95 Jetta won't start weird buzzing sound near fuses

Jettas were notorious for electrical issues. I fought with one for 2 years.
The starter relay is on top of the starter in the center rear of the engine compartment near the firewall. Its mounted at the top of the bell housing, underneath the intake and next to the exhaust manifold and hard to get at from both the top and bottom. Personally, I'd take it to a good respectable foreign mechanic. Not worth fighting with

2001 vw jetta gs :check engine light goes on and off

sounds like a faulty sensor tripping and reconnecting.. the next time the light comes on, take it to an advance auto store or an auto zone, they can read your codes for free... this will tell you what is being tripped, that way you know exactly what you need to get checked and/or fixed instead of a mechanic poking around trying to find everything thats NOT wrong. but if you are not expeiriencing any difficulty with the car, you should be fine. the check engine light actually means alot less than most people think. its usually a transmission or emissions sensor, or even as simple as leaving your gas cap off after filling and then driving for awhile.

Check engine light on, car shakes while in reverse, stalls ...

You need a code scanner hooked up to find out what is causing the light ot come on. Some auto part stores can do that. Once the code is retrieved, they can tell you what sensor is causing it.
