Why is my 2000 impala is overheating

Hi there, Overheating can be caused by a few things.Thermostat, sticking Water pump impella worn or bearings,
clogged outer radiator core[dirt etc] loss of water or coolant, dirty inner radiator core,Head gasket leaking gasses into cooling system, binding brakes, semi clogged muffler or engine radiator hoses no good and gone soft and being sucked in ,etc etc

Overheating leaking

The overheating probably came from the coolant being too low. The coolant in the reservoir won't go back into the radiator if the coolant in the radiator is too low. Until you get it fixed, check and fill up the radiator every time you want to use it. Overheating is very bad for engines and can cause expensive engine repairs.
Where is it leaking, from the engine or the radiator? You didn't say, but wherever it is leaking is the place to start. If at the radiator, and it is not a loose or leaking hose, I would be looking for a new radiator. If it is leaking at the front of the engine and dripping down from there, you could have a bad water pump. This could be an expensive repair at a shop-not the pump itself-they are not too expensive-but the labor cost in replacing a water pump will add up.

The thermostat would not cause it to leak. But when all is said and done, you will want a new thermostat, after the leak is fixed. They are very cheap and it is just good insurance.

My kia sedona 2003 is overheating is it the water pump

Probably not the water pump. The most common cause is rusted out/leaking underbody heater rear heater lines. The steel portions of the lines rust and leak coolant. The low coolant level will cause the engine to overheat. If overheated repeatedly these engines will usually warp the cylinder heads. This will cause severe overheating and may damage the radiator and other components due to combustion gasses entering the cooling system. A cooling system pressure test should be done to check for external leaks, and a block test can be done to check for the presence of combustion gasses entering the cooling system.Make sure to check coolant level in the radiator when cold, NOT in the reservoir on the inner fender. This could also be caused by something as simple as a thermostat or radiator fans that aren't working.

My s 430 has smoke coming from under hood after driving but not all the time temp gauage reads normal. I had oil and trans leaks sealed but it is still happening, what else could it be? Thanks

SMOKE UNDER HOOD COULD BE COOLANT LEAK FROM RADIATOR ITSELF OR CHECK FOR LEAKING TOP RADIATOR HOSE AND CHECK FOR LEAKING BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSE.LOOK UNDER THE HOOD IF COOLANT BOILING OUT COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG ENGINE OVERHEATING FROM BAD THERMOSTAT OR BAD WATER PUMP.CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAK AT WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE.IF SO WATER PUMP NEED REPLACING.ADD MORE COOLANT UNTIL LEVEL CORRECT.TRY LOCATE LEAK. IF CAR OVERHEATED AND BOILED IT OUT. SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD CAN ALSO BE CAUSED BY LEAKING VALVE COVERS WHICH CAN BE FIRE HAZARD IF OIL LEAKS ON HOT EXHAUST MANIFOLD.

Why would a 2005 Dodge Caravan need or use excessive amounts of coolant?

The engine is either overheating and the coolant vaporizes (check also the oil level) or the cooling pipe system has a leak somewhere.

My car's over heating and losing water. 2004 Suzuki Verona. Is this the thermostat?

Yes, it could be the thermostat, but overheating may also be caused by many other things. Ensure engine tune or other mechanical disfunction is not contributing to the overheat problem.
Replace the thermostat, but if overheating persists I suggest you carry out the following checks:-
1) Check coolant system is not leaking fluid due cracked/perished hose or hose fitting, leaking water pump etc,
2) Check engine cooling fan/s are operating as required when engine temp rises above cut-in threshold - check fan control relay is ok,
3) Check for collapsing radiator hose on suction side of water-pump when motor revs raised above idle.
4) Check coolant reservoir pressure cap is serviceable,
5) Check coolant system is properly filled - carry out any bleed off procedure specified to clear any air locks- (ensure heater core coolant flow is turned on).
6) Check condition of radiator core:-
i) for blockage of air flow to (bugs/grass etc),
ii) for core internal blockage to coolant flow,

Overheating and leaking coolant

Get yourself a pressure tester. Make sure everything is as dry as possible, use compressed air if available. Top off the radiator and hook up to tester. Pump up not to exceed the psi on the cap. Then listen carefully and look with a light. If it's mainly on top of the engine, keep an eye on the intake gasket area and any hoses. This is your best bet of finding the leak, because trying to find it with the engine running can cause burns and you can't hear it leaking.

Coolant still leaking and overheating...

It should have set the check engine light--have the code read which should get you at the right places to look for your problem. Coolant leakage is generally at the radiator hose ends and heater hose ends. Could also be a bad radiator cap or overflow tank and hose. Worst case is a leaking radiator core or heater core. Good luck!

2.3l ranger keeps overheating, been through two radiators already.

Hello Ranger Joe, eight months and two radiators is very uncommon. Question, Have you visually confirmed the leak in the radiators or is the leak near the hose connections? Replacing the radiator, cap, water pump, & the thermostat leaves only two others, the hoses and the engine block/heads. Far fitched will be something or somebody poking holes in the radiator.
