1987 300ZX engine dies while driving

Just bought the car 2 months ago and have driven it maybe 300+ miles on weekends checking it out. This Friday I had to jumpstart the car and drove it around some.Sat. I put new battery cables on it and drove around some more.Returning home, it cut off several hundred feet from home and I coasted into the driveway. It turns over but wil not start. Any Ideas. The engine is V6-3000 with Automatic shifting. It was driving fine before.

There are several things I have read about with these problems such as a security system shutting the car down, etc. I would like to check as many as possible. Thanks

If you go to a garage they will connect your car's computer to a code reader and get in return error codes that will tell you where to find the fault.
A defective alarm system can turn off the engine suddenly , in this case you will need to use the car key to unlock it.
Bad ECM module controlling electronic injection is a more common cause for car suddenly failing.
Check also that fuel pump is working and not making wird noise.
Check that air intake is clean and air filter is not too dirty.
Check that you have spark on all cylinder, also electronic distribution problems can cause the same.
You will getting more and definitive info by connecting car to a code reader.

Engine may have slipped off mounts and fan may be rubbing a hose. This would stop when you stop, be reason for water loss and burning smell . Check hoses around front of engine, if this is the problem then engine mounts need replacing and hoses.

2003 VW Jetta TDI Check Engine Light Issue

Try disconnecting the battery (unhook on of the terminals) wait for like 15 mins, hook the terminal once again and start the car. I also own a 2003 Jetta and once my engine light would come on after 2 mins of driving. Disconnecting the battery is like resetting the computer and hopefully the sensor.

Engine does not run smooth

Sounds like a fuel problem, Bad fuel pump relay of actual fuel pump check relay first may be working intermittently.( Replace relay first before going to pump). Good luck thanks for using FIX YA
