Here's a link to an interesting article on beating the factory spare tire lock on the Ford's. Use it responsibly, lol.

It doesn't look like Ford has replacements, without replacing the entire mechanism. If you can get the old one off, I would say by drilling it out, then you should be able to find one at a salvage yard, or salvage locator on line.

The key number may be tied in with your ignition key number. You could call your dealer and ask that question. If it is, you could order a new key. However, since you have stated that you really don't want this device, I would take the vehicle to a small independent mechanic with a good rep and ask him to drill it out and get rid of it. Probably wouldn't cost a great deal. I know this is what my husband would do if he had this problem on his F250.

Good luck to you. And thank you for using Fix Ya. Your rating is always appreciated.

Contact your local Ford car dealer and ask a replacement key.

Yep, that is what I think, the only alternative is finding a skilled local mechanic and undoing the anti theft bolts without damaging the rest, your anti theft tyre system won't be operational anymore in either case, you will need to replace with regular bolts and caps.

They said that you can have it done by a locksmith for $50, better than risking to cause damage by doing it by yourself. Only you will break the lock.

    Ginko Aug 24, 2008

If you don't care to break it try to turn the bolt down using vice grips, be carefult to not damage anything else than the lock, if it does not work get a locksmith from yellow pages. Then buy a replacement lock from a car parts.

technical mechanic can provide you with that.if not available with him can directly order from the service center and bring it for you.please do not try the drill option as it not the better option.

I have a used 2004 Ford F250 and am in need of a spare tire key

Check this site for info- there are 16 different 'keys', so it would probably be best to follow instructions on how to use a 'bolt extractor' to drop the spare tire, and remove the 'key ' insert, so you can lower it w/ a 3/8 drive socket extension in the future, and lock it with a cable lock for security.

I have a 2004 Ford f250 and I don't have the spare tire key. Where can I get a new one? I've gone to Ford dealers and they told me that they can't get it. I can't get my spare tire down.

If you can gain access to the plastic tube where the spare tire rod slides through to lower the tire. I would remove the tube so you can get to the lock. I would just pop the lock out and leave it out.Good luck,I hope this helps.

Spare tire key 2002 super duty

Is it a factory installed lock? If it is you might be able to get one at a ford dealer. They can cut a key for door and ignition if you give them the truck's vin (you have to show proof of ownership, registration, title) I don't know if they can use the vin for the spare tire key, but if they can't, drive to a good locksmith, they should be able to make one up w/ the truck @ their store. countrycurt0
