That would be the best thing. If is an automatic the transmission internals were moving an heating the fluid. The engine was of so the fan could not cool the fluid circulating through the cooler.

Can i tow a suzuki vitara xl7 behind an rv?

Your truck can be flat towed. By placing your transfer case in neutral you completely sever the link between the engine/ transmission and the driveshafts to the axles. The transmission could be left in gear (manual) or in the case of an automatic, park and it wouldn't make a difference. Please be advised to place the transfer case into 2wd or 4wd BEFORE unhooking towed vehicle as the vehicle will start to roll if on an incline. I would apply the emergency brake as well but I wouldn't use it as a first thing to do just in case it's out of adjustment and won't hold vehicle in transfer case neutral.

As far as things still moving would be the following, rear axle and driveshaft and front axle and half shafts. Before towing if towing for long distances maybe have the trucks bearings, U joints and seals checked.

Be safe!

Do I have to disassemble the drive line to tow a 1990 Isuzu P'up on a tow dolly?

if its not AWD, or in 4WD then no, just ensure its in neutral, or you can tow it from the back, just lock the steering wheel, tie the seat belt around it afterwards. We used to do it all the time. It also depends on how far you are towing the vehicle.

if it is 4wd with an automatic trans and you can put the transfer case in neutral it is ok to tow, any models with a manual trans. are ok to tow also

Can I tow a 2003 Suzuki LX7 with an automatic transmission?

Hi,

Only the 4WD version is 'flat towable' - if yours is the front wheel drive version you will need a dolly as special equipment to prevent damage occuring to the transmission. Towing Auto vehicles is not really advisable in my opinion and unless it is specifically stated in the specification of the manufacturers handbook it is best avoided.

However you may want to check out this link which provides a list of towable pickups and SUVs that is updated each year. You can also find their list of towable vehicles from previous years there as well. These are vehicles that are factory approved by their manufacturers for towing behind a motorhome. Some vehicles such as the XL-7 require special procedures which must be followed, including speed and distance limitations.

For example, the 4WD version of the XL-7 requires special care to be taken every 200 miles in order to avoid the potential of transmission damage.

See link for more info

Hope this helps. Thanks for using FixYa.
