Ford vehicles have an auto shut-down switch. The switch is in the trunk. If a Ford is hit with enough force or if the car rolls over in an accident, the switch is triggered and it shuts off the vehicle. This is to prevent fuel from continuing to flow to the engine, possibly causing a fire. If you were hit in the rear and the car will not start, look for the shut-down switch in the trunk. It is usually on the driver's side under the carpet.

89 Chevy Sprint takes about 5 minutes to warm up to be able to drive away or it stalls when I give it gas. The engine will rev up for 3-4 seconds then drop down and almost stall and then rev again during...

Plug the vacuum line you unplugged and the idle should come back. Change your air filter and the map sensor. check for correct coolant level and replace the coolant temp. sensor. This sensor affects cold starting and idle through the ECU (open loop mode, rich fuel mapping and 1200 rpm idle) It should go to closed loop mode in the ECU once engine warm up is achieved ( lean fuel mapping and normal 900 rpm idle). Do not unplug anything else till you perform an OBDII scan of the stored fault history

My 2003 Chrysler 300M 3.5L is seriously missing out. Thought it was bad gas(water). Won't rev up above 4000rpm while idling in Park. Intermittently, won't rev up above 2500rpm while driving. ...

Go to Autozone, Advance, etc.. any good parts store and OBII scan done (fault scan) they do this FREE. Scan will tell you what sensor(s) to go after to fix. Once you repair or replace sensor have parts store reset your light.

93 xj6 stalled at a light, can't be driven

The first thing I would check in a situation like this is the Fuel Pump.

Your fuel pump is physically inside the Gas Tank (which is located between the rear seats and the trunk/spare tyre).

However, the control unit for the fuel pump/motor is right on top of the tank. My experienced mechanic gave mine a couple of bumps with a small object (like a small pipe to reach the box) to kick it back into operation.

Here's a quick 15 minute test:

Try this: keep the tank -Filled Up- this will help to cool the Fuel Pump which sits in gas inside the tank.
-Put your keys in the ignition and turn to stage2 (right before you begin to turn the engine over),
-Go around to your trunk and give the Fuel Pump a couple bumps with a tool that will not hurt it (it is covered in solid plastic).
-Then try cranking the engine while pressing down on the gas pedal, one of three things will happen, 1) The engine turns over and everything is gravy! 2) It cranks but doesn't start up 3) It cranks but doesn't start and you can smell gas from the engine bay.

If #2 is you: then your fuel pump has hit some scummy **** and doesn't want to work without repair or cleaning, try giving it another knock or two with the electrics in the car turned on. Maybe have a friend crank the car while you -tap- on the fuel pump.

If #3 is you: Check your spark plugs, they could be misfiring.

If all above fails I would start thinking that you engine idle valve is dirty and needs a quick clean.

Best luck!

Engine bogs and stalls

Check the air filter hose. My '99 Protege was idling rough and would sometimes shut off. The air filter hose was cracked half way around. I replaced it (easy just loosen two hose clamps and pull out the sensor) and the car is running fine.

Hesitation, stalling like out of gas

Clogged Catalytic Converter. What happens is as you push down harder on the accelerator you force more gas into the system causing a slightly richer mixture and more exhaust flow is neccessary. The easiest way to look for a clogged cat is when it's dark out take it for a ride causing it perform it's problem look under the vehicle if the cat is literally glowing red hot you either have a clogged cat or an extremely rich fuel mixture.
