oxygen sensor are located before the cat converter and after the cat converter. The unit before tha cat converter is normally in the exhaust manifold or in the exhaust before the cat _ it is a heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) the one after the cat converter is located either in the end of the cat or close to in in the exhaust pipe. Its defines as an oxygen sensor (O2S). If you have 2 cat converters (V engines) there will be two of each
I bet you mean O2 sensor. 1st sensor is in exhaust before the converter, 2nd is after converter. 2nd one just indicates when converter is not doing its job, so not crucial to fix as far as running. However, when one O2 sensor fails, can the others be far behind?
check for an oxygen sensor (HO2S) before the cat converter and a Sensor (O2S) after the cat converter . If you have two cats then there will be 2 sensors for each converter. The Ho2S is a heated sensor and is different to the O2S sensor.. Use the special sensor tool so that the wires are not damaged
both o2 sensors are on the right side of vehicle if they are bank 1 sensor 1 and bank 1 sensor 2 ( S11 & S12) sounds like the o2 sensors may not be the problem. Possible restricted exhaust on bank 1 or a fuel delivery problem on bank 1. Have you checked the voltage readings on a scan tool for the sensors on the right bank ( bank 1) ? are they switching or are both voltages the same? If they are the same you will need a new cat converter.
The O2 sensors located beside the cat converter. The one is pre-cat converter and other is pro-cat converter. The 1 before the catalytic converter and 1 after it. The 1 before is called the upstream and the 1 after is the downstream.-----------Thanks.Helpmech.
2 O2 sensors and 2 catalytic converter efficiency monitors, they look like O2 sensors but are not, they are after the cat converters, the O2's are before the cat converters in the exhaust pipe of the engine exhaust manifolds
The "Before" CAT O2 sensor is easy, just remove the exhaust heat shield and you should have enough space to get to it. The "After" CAT O2 Sensor is a bit harder; I found the easiest way to do that is to remove the right wheel and it will expose an opening that you can reach through to break it loose.
THERE IS ONE O2 SENSOR IT IS IN THE EXHAUST JUST OFF THE ENGINE AND BEFORE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, THE3 OTHER SENSOR AFTER THE CAT CONVERTER IS CALLED A CATALYTIC CONVERTER PERFORMANCE MONITOR, IT LOOKS LIKE A O2 BUT IS NOT..
