Question about 2000 Buick LeSabre

No spark I have a 2000 lesabre. I have the random cylinder misfire code. I have replaced plugs and wires the problem is still there. I have determined it is only running on 4 cylinders. There is no spark to the 2 cylinders they both run off the same coil, so I replaced the coil pack and I still have no spark. any ideas?

I had the ignition module go bad on mine. Bought a new one at advance for 130 bucks. Problem solved.

First you need to determine what type of miss you have. Is it random on all cylinders, or is it restricted to one or two cylinders? Random misfire can be caused by crank or cam sensors that are starting to give out. Single cylinder misfires can be due to plugs, wires, coils (you already addressed those), as well as internal issues such as burnt or broken valves.

That's a multiple / random misfire. Lot's of ways to go on this.. bad plug, wire, coil pack, etc. Then there's this one:

Code reads "random/multiple cylinder misfire


Basically this means that the the car's computer has detected that not all of the engine's cylinders are firing properly.

A P0300 diagnostic code indicates a random or multiple misfire. If the last digit is a number other than zero, it corresponds to the cylinder number that is misfiring. A P0302 code, for example, would tell you cylinder number two is misfiring. Unfortunately, a P0300 doesn't tell you specifically which cylinder(s) is/are mis-firing, nor why.

Symptoms may include:
the engine may be harder to start
the engine may stumble / stumble, and/or hesitate
other symptoms may also be present

Causes: A code P0300 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
Faulty spark plugs or wires
Faulty coil (pack)
Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
Faulty fuel injector(s)
Burned exhaust valve
Faulty catalytic converter(s)
Stuck/blocked EGR valve / passages
Faulty camshaft position sensor
Defective computer

Possible Solutions:
If there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.

If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.

Random misfires that jump around from one cylinder to another (read: P030x codes) also will set a P0300 code. The underlying cause is often a lean fuel condition, which may be due to a vacuum leak in the intake manifold or unmetered air getting past the airflow sensor, or an EGR valve that is stuck open.

Need some more info on some diagnostic codes that came up on my truck & how to fix them. P0137 o2 sensor, P0300 random multi miss, P0303 cylinder 3, P0306 cylinder 6, P0307 cylinder 7


Replace your O2 Sensor and Spark Plug Wires. If you still have the Random Misfire, replace your Spark Plugs, then Replace your Distributor Cap and Rotor. If you still have the Random Misfire you may have a Timing Problem, or Ignition Coil problem.

PO300 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

When a misfire occurs, engine speed will fluctuate. If the engine speed fluctuates enough to cause the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor (POS) signal to vary, Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Electronic Control Module (ECM) can determine that a misfire is occurring.

Causes:
- Improper spark plug
- Insufficient compression
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- The injector circuit is open or shorted
- Fuel injectors may be faulty
- Intake air leak
- The ignition signal circuit is open or shorted

Solutions:
- Perform Injector Service
- Replace Spark Plugs
- Replace Injectors
- Replace Ignition Coils

2000 Buick LeSabre Limited. 6 cylinder. 32,000 mi. Engine shuddering under load. Computer code indicates random misfire. Lots of things can be replaced from coils to plugs to cables to injectors to vaccum...


Start by testing. You can pull the plugs and see if one or all of them look bad. This can indicate which cylinder(s) are misfiring. Then I would start with checking for spark, using spark plug wire pliers pull each wire and see if it arcs, if it doesnt then that means that you have a bad coil. Then check your wires for any damage and then check them with an ohm meter. If all that checks out then I would do a fuel pressure check. And somewhere along the line do a good check for broken vacuum hoses and bad wires.

Random Cylinder Misfire


The cam sensor code is the part to concentrate on, also check the timing belt for excess play causing the camshaft to whip, this will cause a random miss.

Random Cylinder Misfire


The problem is the ignition control module such is under the coil packs. It seems to be an internal problem in the design. I have seen it many times and if you don't belive as many will not. So disconnect the modules electrical connector and just let it sit for two to three days. After that clean ir replace your sparkplugs, they will be fails up dew to it running lean and rich. Plug it in. Plug it in and wala its fixed $ but only for a week or two then back to the same thing so in short change the ignition module and save time and money, and don't forget to thank your friendly neighbor hood mexican mechanic.
