Hi ,this sounds like the timing belt is of time ,this happens when the timing marks are missalingned ,the motor will still run but it afects the performance drasticly,it can also cause major engine damage......

I had an 01 Focus that would do something kind of similar. I'm no expert, but it may be the fuel filter. After so many years and so much mileage, the filter will have built up too much gunk and the engine won't get the proper amount of fuel. Just an idea, but have a mechanic take a look at that.
IS it a 2.4l twin cam variable timing ,small selenoid valve at head corner near timing belt 2 bolt small gasket whith screen was busted and leaking not expensive I m not sure but easy to check. It was a 4 cyl Accord
a friend told me to take the pos cable off with the key turned on acc wait 30 sec then touch post sounded crazy tried it worked for me good luck cable to hot post 3 times
The
engine and the automatic transmission in this vehicle are computer
controlled and in most cases when a fault occurs a fault code is
stored in the memory of the computer control module. There are
exception to this, such as the Mass Airflow Meter and fuel pressure
problems. What must be done is to have all the basic testing done
such as a scan of the system for fault codes as well as a check with
a live data scanner tool for engine functions that are not within
range of normal, a trained technician is required to know what is
correct and what isn't, then based on careful diagnostics done from
a factory repair manual the correct part is replaced or the wiring
repaired or the computer replaced (known as the PCM), which is very
rarely the problem. Other basic checks must be done as well such as
mechanical problems with the engine as well as engine state of tune
and mileage on the engine. The transmission can have mechanical
issues as well such as no gear engagement at all or a failed pump or
other pressure related problems.
start car and then take a battery lead off and if the engine stops the alternator isnt chargine ,if so then check for power to the big lead if no power then check the power distribution box ,if need be rune a wire from the + battery terminal to the big lead on the alternator and try that ,if power to the big terminal and no charge as stated then take the alternator off and get a genuine bosch factory exchange unit ,yes i know its not cheep but at least it will work
Does your Mazda have a standard trans (clutch), or automatic. If it's automatic, the tranny might be slipping, and if it's a standard shift the clutch may be slipping. Does the actual driving speed (not engine rpm's) seem to stay the same when this happens? If you are still traveling at the same speed even though the engine speeds up, it's your tranny or clutch. I don't think the timing belt and tensioner have anything to do with this. countrycurt0
you know. i took it to a mechanic and actually.... The timing belt cut the Crank Shaft Censor... So it was the crank shaft censor again. The wires were routed wrong from the first mechanic that "fixed" the car.
Aprreciate you suggestion
Many Thanks
