2003 Mitsubishi Galant ES Clunking noise

My 2003 Mitsubishi Galant ES has recently been sounding rather clunky in the front suspension area (I think). Up until a couple of months ago there was NO PROBLEM. We went on our summer vacation, drove about 1100 KM, and now there is this clunking noise when driving over rough sections of city streets. I do not notice any noises at highway speeds, just when driving around town on imperfect road surfaces.
I kind of think it is the front struts, or at least the "one" on the drivers side. there also seems to be some less noticable clunking noises coming from the rear suspension as well. This all seems to have happened at the same time. Really quite weird. Are the struts on these vehicles meant to "wear out" all at the same time, and at around 95,000 KM.

I will crawl under the car one of these fine days and check out the sway bar bushings ..... thanks a bunch.

I will try looking at, and maybe changing the sway bar bushings first as suggested by another advisor. Thanks anyway. I will do the strut thing as a LAST resort. Too $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

same thing here, my 2003 galant has recently been making clunky noises in the rear and the front while driving over rough surfaces, the funny thing is my wife and I have the same exact cars and both galants after 70,000 miles started making the noises. Im sure this is a common problem, I just dont know what is causing the noise yet. did anyone figure it out yet. Thanks.

The first thing i would check is the sway bar bushings they usualy go first. you have a bushing out somwhere. ive replace many struts because people have requested new struts and when we install them they come back and complain that the clunk is still there and all it needed was a bushing kit for $20
hope this helps

Well strut replacment is probably your best solution they usually last anywhere between 50000 to 80000 miles but it all depends on road conditions more than mileage or age

2003 mitsubishi galant es put in drive engine fuse blow only in drive

Well this is obviously an electrical gremlin, which I have had to deal with before. has anyone recently done any work on the cars electrical system...this would include a new radio/speaker system? If not you need to trace out the electrical wiring going to and from the transmission. Check for pinched wires, chafed wires and loose contact points including grounding studs and any electrical connectors that may have got moisture/water in them. Another thing is to make sure the proper fuses with proper ratings are installed also. Hope this helps!

2000 Mitsubishi Galant 4 cyl ES underhood squeal on right side

Be gentle with my rating. I am a long ways away. It sounds like a fan belt. You should pop the hood next time and see how it sounds when you have the squeeling going on. Fan belts will squeel until the get warmed up and then stop because the heat makes them grab the way they are ment too. Let me know, Raz

Noise from rear suspension on 2003 Honda Odyssey.

a clunking clanging noise sounds very much like your stabilizer bar end links and bushings. you have a thin rear "sway" bar on the rear of your odyssey. this can cause a whole lot of noise. grab each side and pull/push. if it feals loose, replace the end links and bushings.

Galant 2003,Abnormal whinning noise on gear shifting.

I would have the transmission fluid checked to see if it needs any added and if it doesn't it sounds like a bearing going out or something. I would take the car to the dealer, since it's fairly a newer model and see if they can find the source of the problem. they are best when it comes to knowing everything about your car than any other shop around.

My car is leaking water inside when I turn the AC on. I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant ES

I had a problem with water also, so I took it to the dealer. It was a clogged drain on the passenger side. I think the one that ran from the windshield wiper area. It took about five minutes fo fix and my dealer did it for free. Not sure if your issue is the same.
