Question about 2003 Mitsubishi Galant

1 Answer

Air conditioner This is a problem I recently discovered on my 2003 Mitsubishi Galant ES. When I turn the air control knob to defroster (ie maximum clockwise), the air conditioner comes on, even though the a/c light is NOT on. The fan works fine, and the temperature control can be anywhere in the "blue" region . I am not sure if this is a new problem or if it has been this way since new. I have had the vehicle since 26,000 KM, it now has 96,000 KM.

Thankyou for that solution. I kind of figured that it was supposed to operate that way, but know I know why. So there is really No PROBLEM with my air conditioner. Thankyou very much.

This is the way the car is designed when the defrost is on it runs the are threw the evaporator with the AC on . this dries out the air to help defog or defrost your windshield. american cars have been doing this since the 80's . the original idea was to work the compressor in the winter. a AC system sitting not being used has more repairs than one that is used all the time.
i hope this helps

How do I fix the defrost on the my Mitsubishi Galant? It wont change blower directions in order to go to defrost.

Need your model and year, please. The mode switch is usually operated by vacuum. The control panel mode switch receives vacuum supply from the intake manifold and distributes to the actuator doors as commanded by the control switch. If the vacuum supply is disconnected or leaking, the system defaults to one mode--which is usually defrost, but depends on the design. I can provide more details if you reply with model and year.

Lose of power when deforster is on

It should only be a slight loss of power. This is caused because the defroster also turns on the air conditioner which uses dry air mixed with the heater air to defrost the windshield.

Instructions on how to turn air/heat on in 2003 mitsubishi galant

All those buttons normally are on the center concole. The heat/air knob turns to the red for heat, the more its turned in the red the hotter the heat blows. If your talking about the AC air, that should be on the knob that lets you chose the fan speed, just push it in to turn on the AC a light on the button may come on to let you know its been activated. the Rear Defrost is a single button, i think with 3 wavy lines top to bottom also in the center concole.

2003 mitsubishi galant es ac/fan problem

sounds like the fan controller switch in the panel has gone nutty. I would take the car to the dealer and let them diagnose the issue, they are best when it comes to knowing your car the most and in diagnosing problems with them better than just a regular joe blow shop that works on everything and doesn't specialize in any particular issue.
