Question about 1992 Buick Riviera
I just bought a 1992 Buick Riviera and it was running fine at first but now it does the fallowing.
Power-steering stops working and pulls the car to the left. At the same time the anti-lock breaks will stop working and I have to use a lot of leg power to slow the car down. The accelerator peddle no longer has pressure and stops working. The Engine light pops on and the car shuts down.
When I try to restart the engine it takes 30 minutes to and hour for it to restart back up. Sometimes after it has restarted it will stay running for just 15 minutes or less then other times it will run with no problem what so ever.
So I'm wondering what this issue might be so I know what part to buy to fix it.
I don't know if that year has the standarized diagnostic connector; check with an auto parts store, they can tell you.
Code readers there however, are high priced, check on eBay or if you have a Harbor Freight store in your area, see if they have any of these on sale; I paid ony $30 for mine there and it does all vehicles through the newest.
I think though, that you have the sequence wrong; the power steering and power brakes are dependent on a running engine; the steering needs its pump turned and the brakes use engine vacuum for boost.
I think the engine is just dieing, the other things are only symptoms of that.
You will need some kind of diagnosis on this one unless there is a series problem that one of us recognizes.
The randomness of the failure is confusing but I think it is electrical in nature.
