Question about 2006 Toyota Corolla

1 Answer

2006 toyota corolla

I have a 2006 corolla. having trouble starting, starter sometimes engages, otherwise, get clicking noise. seems like battery doesn't have enough charge to turn over starter. last time when the starter engaged and the car started, drove around for about 10 miles shutting the car off and starting without trouble 4 to 5 times. last time driving the engine quit twice, both while making turns, first one turning left, second one turning right. the first time it quit, while driving, shifted to neutral while still rolling and started back up. second time, quit completely and has not started on its own without jumping it. the indicator on the battery says its okay. took off battery cables, cleaned terminals and connections, still no start, just clicking. am taking to autozone for them to test battery for a short. connections to alternator don't seem loose.

Someone else seems to think that its the alternator. The car is sitting at home right now as I'm not sure what is wrong with it exactly and don't want the mechanic to give me the run around and I waste heaps of time and money on nothing.

first was driving down the road & would sputter like it wasn't getting enough fuel, was told that distributor cap had moisture inside it last time this happened. no cracks or problems found on distributor cap. then check engine light came on driving down the road. drove t-100 back home & shut it off. finally went out & battery was dead. charged the battery, now all truck does is make a clicking sound when I try to start it. it wont roll over

Remove the starter & inspect the contacts inside the starter solenoid housing. If they are burnt and/or worn, you will get this condition. Replace the contacts and the plunger, or replace the starter. I change contacts in my shop 3-4 times a week. Quite a common failure. The clicking noise is the plunger hitting one contact, but not the other, due to wear.

How to install a starter on a 2006 toyota corolla?

They only have 2 bolts holding them in. Unbolt/unclip the wires from the starter and then remove those 2 bolts. Replacing it is the same process in reverse.

the clicking noise is the starter relay engaging, you say it starts w/jumpercables-starter is ok, either alt is not charging the battery or the battery can not hold a charge anymore any auto parts store can check it and tell you witch is bad

2006 toyota corolla. when starting click sometimes once. sometimes 4x, maybe stater. mechanic told me, maybe the bendex gear?? do i need to change the whole starter?

You have to remove the starter and the starter drive is a part inside the starter. It's easier to just replace the entire starter.

  1. I tried to find a
Toyota Corolla Wiring Diagram 1998 |
If you go to your library you can look for free. Just not sure of location of of neutral safety switch for your year of car. In the back of motor manual is wire diagrams you will find switch there. Also GEO Prism is the same car.
  2. The last time I worked on a Prism it was a 1997 I found a bad wire connection at the shifter. Took 20 minutes to do repair and no parts.
  3. So I would check the switch in your console. Sometime they stick or a wire comes loose. Sometimes a little WD-40 shot to the switch helps.

I have a 1996 Toyota Corolla that won't start

Radio and lights can work with weak battery, too weak to turn starter.

Noise when shutting off maybe dieseling due to fuel mixture too rich or timing off.

When you say car won't start do you mean starter turns but engine does not start, or do you mean starter does not turn.

2002 Toyota Corolla starter change out

Disconnect the battery.

Remove the lower plastic covers to aid in access.

Remove the battery cable lug from the starter and the signal wire.

Remove the two 14mm bolts holding the starter on and lower out the bottom.

*sometimes it helps the clearance to remove the oil filter.

2006 toyota corolla just came back 50k service now will not start

Sounds like your alternator is letting go, because your battery is not charging, and this would mean that you could probably just make it home before the juice runs out. Get your alternator checked out, if your car has 50k, this should be under warranty, otherwise could cost hundreds to replace/repair.

My ECU went out on me and gave very similar problems. If you can get a code reader that would help a bunch!
