Question about 2003 Chevrolet Malibu
Is it located in the gas tank? Do I need to drop the tank? If so, how is this done?
Genarally the tank is held up with 2 straps you just loosen them up and the tank comes down be sure to support tank with transmission jack or similar support but before you try that some models have access panal in bottom of trunk not sure about your particular model look and see hope this helps

look under the car drivers side. it should be mounted to the frame about mid way under the car. it will be a metal cylinder with 2 lines connected to it. one of the lines will be going to the front and the other will be going to the back of the car.

You are looking for the constant control relay module- ( CCRM ) see below. The pump will be located inside the fuel tank. Most of the time , its the pump and not the relay but, it wouldn't hurt to check the relay out. Teh relay is housed in the CCRM. Its located behind the engine coolant reservoir.

Disconnect the battery & any fuel lines you can and the same with electrical connectors first of all. Drain the tankwith a siphon pump if 3 gallons or more of fuel is present. It gets heavy to replace back in and dangerous too.. Have the tank supported now & remove the bolts from the tanks mounting straps. Drop the tank down about 6 inches and check for other connection that need to be removed
RFemove the center retainer to remove the fuel pump with the sending unit
I would replace both items since it is an older car and also replace the filter sock to the pump too
Reverse this procedure to install
