2003 Buick park Avenue Driver Seat Adjuster...

We have a 2003 Buick Park Avenue and the Driver Seat will go back and forth but won't go up and down. Would you know what we could do to possibly fix it or what part we would need to purchase to get it up and running again?

my motor still makes noises like its running, but doesn't turn the screw. Is there a gear or something in the motor that is busted? if so, is it easily Replaced?

Same for me in my 01 park. I took the seat motors apart last night and there is a PLASTIC gear that is driven by the worm gear of the seat motor and the plastic teeth rip off. So you hear the motor running but it does not move up or down. Very frustrating that GM would design it to break like that. Does anyone know where to get a replacement gear, preferably aluminum? Otherwise you need to buy the wole assembly from GM for $700

I have the same problem with a 2000 Park Ave.. Pass seat rear tilt up/down was stuck in full up position. This is very common. I test drove several PAs and many had either driver or pass seat rear tilt stuck in full up position.
I unbolted seat from floor and tilted it forward, braced it up with a 3-foot pipe spanning the center hump and ledge on right side. Seat is extremely heavy! Removed motor assembly (motor and big worm gear) by removing two pins. The pin in the rear had to be drilled out. With the motor out I took notes on it, took pics, and adjusted it by hand. I then reinstalled it because without it the seat pan rear will be in a full down position.
I've been searching ebay for months for a new motor with no luck. I've tried many online junkyards as well with no luck. What a pain. What an awful design!
It would be nice to retrofit this motor with a more reliable design. It looks like it might be possible to use an older motor assembly with metal gears in place of this junk. I might start looking into that as I'm having no luck finding another motor.

I am working on a solution motor that comes with a new gear and shaft. I have replaced one of them in my 02 Buick and have parts ordered to replace the other one. These are built with larger gears than the original plastic ones. They are still plastic but seem to work well and don't take the skill needed to replace the plastic gear with the brass one. I hope to take video when I replace the other motor in another couple weeks and upload it to youtube.

    How much will it cost.

  • Taaf Vermeulen Apr 20, 2013

Still working on making sure it will work. I don't really want to throw out price until I know it all works well. I know that your solution is probably a better solution, and it is what I was going to go with, until I realized the pain that it was going to be to machine the shaft and attache the new gear.

After months of looking I found a shop who was willing to make me some brass gears. I put the brass gear in both my 2002 Park Ave seats. They work great. I sell them for 100 apiece.

ball park figure for the cost. I don't think I'm goint to be able to sell another gear until people have a price choice too. Very good job on the video. Very ingenious way of fixing the seats. I'm suprised no else after all the years of the Park Avenues have marketed these fixes until us. Clay

I rebuild my own plastic gears with liquid plastic moulding. I just poured the plastic moulding material in the area where the teeth had stripped and then recut the teeth. I think the new material is stronger than the original but I haven't had it in the car long enough to know how long it will last.

As they pointed out, the motors run fine. What we need is a replacment shaft with the attached gear. The plastic gears tend to sheer off the teeth with any load at all. If anyone finds a replacment gear, please post.

How do you change the driver name and memory for seat and mirror adjustment on a 1997 buick park avenue ultra

I am not sure about changing the name as my 2000 park ave. only indicates driver one or driver two. To reset the memory for seat/ mirror position is rather simple: with the ignition on and the car in park, adjust your seat and mirrors to the desired position. Then press and hold the desired button (driver one or two) until you hear a beep, This is the procedure that works on my 2000 park ave. I hope this helps you.

2002 buick park avenue power drivers seat won't go up or down

The most common problem is the gear breaking under the seat. There is one motor to make the front go up and down and one motor to make the back go up and down. The front up/down motor is the easier one to replace. I have a video of one way to fix the up/down motors. I demo the back motor. Here is the link to my video:

1999 park avenue right front seat will not move up and down. It goes froward and backwards but not up or down.

Either the seat switch is bad or the cable that drives the seat adjuster up and down is broken. It will be easier to check the switch with an OHM meter than taking the seat out I know

Power seat motor runs and seat moves back and forth but will not move up and down

The most common problem is that the little plastic teeth in the motor have broken off. Some people replace the plastic gear with brass ones, others mold new teeth on. I made a video of putting different motors in. Here is the link to my video:

Black plastic channel guide under my driver seat in 2003 Park Ave

Well, I would say the seat might not glide easily back and forth. But, it may still work. I guess worst case is the seat motor could overheat and maybe "fry?".

I would take it out and see how the seat moves back and forth. If there's noticeable difference, I would pursue trying to get this part back in place.
