You didn't say what make or model or year, but This could be so many things. Bad ball joints, bad control arm, bad struts, strut plates, bad CV joint, bad inner tie rod, bad wheel bearing, caliber , sway bar, . Not enough info, but if you put vehicle in the air and pry wheel around looking for anything loose in the steering components, this is the best thing to do, and it will give you a better idea of what's going wrong
Jack the front of the car up high enough to get under it, put jack stands under the car for safety.
Start on either side and check the tie rod ends for looseness. If you have someone to help, have them hold one tire with hands at 3 and 9 o'clock while you grab the other tire the same way. Try to move the tire by pushing and pulling. If you feel movement, have your helper sit in the car and move the steering wheel 1/4 to 1/2 turn left and righ as you check the tie rods for which one or ones are loose.
Once you have found out which to replace, after they are replaced, you will need to have the car aligned.
Replacing tires every six months is not the worst--Sooner or later a sloppy tie rod let's go. They don't always go out all at once, but sooner or later they all need replaced.
You probably have a worn tie-rod. Jack one side of the car up at a time so that one front wheel is off the ground. Grab the wheel and try to turn it back and forth. You should not feel any play. When you find a wheel with play, reach around the wheel with one hand and grab the inner tie rod and hold it still while pushing and pulling on the wheel. If the play goes away, replace the inner tie rod end. If it does not go away, replace the outer tie rod end.
Inner tie rods could make the same noise your describing. Do this......with your car in park and at idle, slightly turn you wheel from left to right, just a slight ****. 1/16 of a turn. Increase the pace from left to right, then slow down the pace. You should feel a bump in the steering wheel almost like something is tapping it. If so, have your inner and outer tie rods checked. Actually, have the steering gear checked also for leaks and wear.
