Question about 2003 Hummer H2

2 Answers

H2 Hummer when i turn the ignition switch on starter doesnt spin, repaced starter and starter selonoid, still does not spin when turning ignition key, replaced harness switch for ignition switch, engine started for a moment/starter did spin, but it died and would not spin when i tried to start engine with key. Battery is charged, battery cables clean/tight, every time i try to start it the blower fan, a/c all come i shut them off at their designated switches. But, every time i turn ignition switch on all accessorsiesw come on without me turning them on. Test light indicates no fire coming off switch to starter. Im thinking wire harness for switch is bad. I hear there was a factory recall for 2003 H2 Humers for starting system failure, no engine light code, fire @ spark plugs. What part or procedure to figure why starter wont turn when i turn ignition on with key

Mine will not start. PRNDL123 display on dash does not indicate what gear I have selected. I hear the starter relay, but no clicking from the solenoid. Please help.

I hear it click when I stop and even once I park and turn off the ignition. My battery has gotten weak because of it I think.

Today 11-12-08 my 2003 H2 Hummer would not start. Checked battery it ischarged. Cables tight. Tried to start with portable booster pak. No go. Tridto jump start with my wife's Suburban. Still no go.
When I turn the switch I hear a single click and that is it. No engine turning over. While trying to start with key the headlights go out. Out of ideas, Will take to Chevy garage in am. Will post solution.

I had a starter problem with my 2003 hummer and I changed the starter... But, during the research process I also noticed that there are some relays that I checked and some fuses that are related to the starter. Have you checked those? In the engine compartment area there are fuses and some relays... Also in the driver side on the side of the dashboard there is another compartment with fuses and relays... Try checking those....

Hopes this helps.

Will not start or turn over. Replaced battery. I hear a clicking sound when I turn the key on around the starter relay and starter. When I turn the ignition further to start, the lights and dash lights...

Steve, take the starter off and have it checked at a local parts store ie:Auto zone, O'reiley's ect. I would be willing to bet that the starter is out. the reason i think this is because of that fact that you said that the lights go out when you turn the ignition to the "start" position, this usually means there is a short in the starter. For a quick fix, you could have someone hold the key in the on position and lightly tap on the starter with a hammer to see if it is just bound up.

Car won't start. its got a hot battery. Turn key, dash lights up but does nothing, not even click. got under car to ckeck starter used screwdriver on selonoid and it turned over fine. turn key switch...

If your car rolls over when you short the selonoid then the possibilities are limited.
The most likely is your neutral safety switch
the others are the ignition switch or damaged wiring.

03 h2 heated seat problem

Check the wires under the seat sometimes they frae when moving the seat back and forth.

Also they will auto turn off it is getting to hot or a wire inside the seat is contacting another wire so check where you can for bad contact.

Hope this helps

When i turn my key to the on position the starter does not turn over i test the starter and its not getting power what can this be?

could be the fuse to the crank or maby a dead cell in the battery or simply needs a new battery ..corroded wires to the battery , ignition switch gone bad ,
but check your crank fuse 1st and then your battery connections ...do you have lights and power to anything else on the vehicle ...if so it may just need a jump if you have already tried that then i hope you have looked at the fuses for one that may have shorted out ...

My key In my 03 H2 is stuck it won't turn back all

Go buy some WD40 and spray it inside the ignition and while your doing that try and move the steering wheel side to side and try pulling out the key. You might want a extra person to help you let then turn the wheel while your pulling on the key but first spray WD40 in there it wont hurt it plus it lubricates the key and ignition trust me this works I have done this tons of times.
PS you can buy WD40 at any auto parts store or even at a Wal-Mart.

Key will not turn to off and battery dies after several minutes

chances are it is your tumbler or parking gear switch. you can replace the tumbler (ignition switch) or the parking gear switch is not recognizing that the vehicle is in park and preventing the key from being turned off

Igition switch wont shut off

I had a similar problem. Check the connection under the dash just above the emergency brake. There is a block which runs North-south which is the wiring harness for the steering wheel. On that harness is a grey U shaped clamp. If it is not engaged all the up (toward the top of the car) then block will work loose and not allow the connection for the lock solenoid to dis-engage, locking your key in the ignition lock.

Hummer H2 engine won't turn over, key won't

Dead Battery? Bad starter motor?

Try pushing on the brake and making sure its all the way in park.

Turn the steering wheel back an forth a little to remove the key.

None of those work, Call triple A, find a shop.
