Question about 2002 Toyota 4Runner

92 4runner "missing" at 75mph +

My 92 toyota 4runner 4X4 6cyl 423,000mi. is "missing" whenever I go over 75mph. My RPMs drop to 1000 then shoot back up within seconds. I dont seem to lose any speed. Its an old engine but I have been replacing parts as they go over the years. My Spark plugs get oil on them. I was told just to keep changing them because the problem is more expensive to fix than it is just to change the spark plugs once every couple of months. I am thinking it is a problem with the Fuel pump. I am willing to drop the tank to take a look but I don't know if it should be full or empty when I drop it. But before I take the trouble or risk to do so I would like to know if there is any other possible things that could cause such a problem.

Sounds like the guides on your vallves are worn out letting oil bypass into cylider they need replaced if you are going to drop tank to check fuel pump by all means empty it first for your ease and safety also hope this helps but still think your looking at a valve job

My `94 toyota camry 2.2L, in the morning starts fine the RPM is at 1100, then when it gets warm it goes dowm to 800 RPMs is that normal or it should stays at least between 900 or 1000RPMs, please somebody...

high idle on starting is normal as it is the same as a choke being on. When it drops back it should be around 900. However tacos in cars are not real accurate under a 1000 rpms so have it checked manually with a rev counter. Run the fault codes to check for a problem.

Have an fx45.Should the tach read 25-3000 ROMs when moving at 75mph? Auto tranny seems like it should be in higher gear.

there is not info to be able to give a definite answer
to work it out
you have top know the diff ratio, wheel tyre circumference to be able to work from rpms of the engine to road speed
However as a pointer, most cars will be around 3200 rpms at 60mph as this will be direct drive and od causes a drop in rpms
Being an automatic find yourself a good section of low traffic road and start from stop slowly increase the rpms and watch the rpms. keeping the accelerator steady you will see when the auto changes by a drop in rpms. slowly increase road sped until you see the next drop in rpms and so on. Over drive normally comes in around 55 mph or around 3000rpms
I would think that it is working because 3500rpms at 75mph is reasonable rpms to be expected. If it wasn't working I would expect the rpms to be around 3800 to 4000.at 75mph

Have you tested the IAC (idle air control) sounds like it's sticking, I have tried to clean them but it was short lived, so once you have determine it's bad (after market $85) I would replace it and solve the problem.

Bullitt 2001 won't idle starts up great then drops to 0 rpms

You are going to need to start with a new idle air control valve. It is mounted on the throttle body on top of the engine.
