I left a mirror light on overnight without noticing. it discharged the battery to the point of almost not starting in the morning. but it did start and run just fine. I had to re set the clock though. drove it 13 miles to work, parked it and still had not noticed the mirror light. it sat all day with the light still on and discharged the battery until it once again almost would not start the car. but again the car started and ran ok. but now, the clock had to be reset again and the ac was blowing hot air and would not respond to changing to a cold setting--still blew hot air. I shut off the car, checked the battery--still shows green eye, no loose or corroded connections at battery in trunk or under hood. checked fluids while under hood and they were fine. went to re start engine and it would not start==battery too discharged to crank over the engine. that is when I noticed the mirror light and turned it off. I called a tow truck and the driver jump started the car. It started up but then the engine started surging instead of idleing smoothly. When I stepped on the accellerator, there was no response. I shut the car off. tried it again, same results. I had the car towed home. It has sat in the driveway for a couple of days. at first, it would not crank over. but the battery has recovered some from sitting and I started the car tonight. but it still surges while idling and won't accellerate. The tow truck driver told me I may have to have it towed to the dealer to "have it re-set" He said whenever the battery is disconnected on a bmw around that year, 2004, z4, it has to have something re-set by the dealership. Is this true or do I have some sort of damage caused by the way the car was jump started? I saw that the positive cable connection was made correctly to the terminal in the black plastic box on the fire wall, but I did not see where the ground cable was connected. I assumed he did it correctly because the car started. But what caused the ac to pump hot air, clock need re setting, and then the engine surge...?

I was told about that and what I remember is this:....The history that the car's computer has stored to keep your car running properly is lost when the battery goes dead....then when the battery is charged the computer has to gain back all that data to properly tune your car. Suposidly it takes 30 starts and drives to regain enough data to get back where you were.
Some are not sure that's true but I believe it.

I would suggest a few things ... first and the most important... check that you have the wires in the proper order on the distributer. next have the timing checked.

Have you replaced the fuel filter lately? It should be replaced every 10,000 miles or so. Located drivers side on frame half way back. Good Luck!

It is most likely a bad wheel bearing. I had my rear passenger wheel bearing break at 75000 miles. get it replaced and when you that, replace rotors and brakes to be on the safe side

I don't know what you have for test equipment but load test the battery first. If the battery is 5 years or older it may be time. If you have a test light and multimeter (With amp measurements). Test to see which fuses still have power with the key out of the ignition. Then load test each fuse to see which one has a high draw on it. I don't know what the failure is. Only through diagnostics can you narrow your search and pin point the affected circuit. Any questions please write back. Good Luck.

Bought new battery. morning vuka don't want to start. mornings I had to jump start it 0km still refuse to start on its own

Probably something draining the battery overnight. Interior light left on? The regulator in the alternator could be bad and keeping the ignition energized draining the battery. If your jump start it drive to work get off work and it starts after 8-9 hrs you have a system voltage leak some where. If nothing is left on overnight have the voltage regulator tested in the alternator.

Can anyone explain why my 1993 Cadillac Eldorado wont start after it sits overnight? Also, why does my interior lights jump on sometimes when I hit a bump then turn off when I hit the door panel. My car...

Cranks and starts are two different things.
If it cranks but won't start it could be loosing fuel pressure overnight.
If it won't crank in the morning, you could have a bad cell in the battery or something draining the battery overnight. Such as the interior lights coming on and off.
The light problem could be the door ajar sensor in the door latch.

98 dodge caravan. left lights on one night last week and had to jump in morning. today battery light came on once and went right back off but i have noticed van taking a little longer to start

Your battery tried to get back to 12+ volts the night the lights were left on, and that is very hard and often fatal to a conventional battery-the fact that you got it started with a jump and it started later (even though it took longer to start) is a good thing-but your alternator will not properly 'charge' your battery, it should be put on a slow charger ( amp) to properly bring it up to what it is capable of-a deep cycle battery can be fully discharged hundreds of times without major damage, but a conventional battery can only go through this a few times. Charge it up, then if you still have problems up, get the battery load tested (this sees how fast it can recover from a measured load, good for determining how good the battery is). Remember too, kyour alternator is sensitive to how hard it has to work to get the battery up to level-so a deficient battery could cause more expensive problems unless you take care now.

charge it properly, get it tested.

Have a 01 Tahoe with new red top and fairly new alternator. It charges at about 14v. But if I leave the Tahoe set for a week, it wont start.Where do I look for a voltage leak. The Tahoe seems to be working...

Start with the basics; Is the reason the car does not start is that the battery is discharged after a week of sitting or a case that it won't start without a jump although the battery is still good. If the car just does not start after sitting then try the following; Pull the negative battery cable and let the car sit overnight. Reconnect the cable in the morning and see if it starts. If it does then you are looking for something that is pulling current from the battery. Could be lots of things; light on in the glove box or trunk, a short in a wire, etc. You can try pulling a couple of fuses each evening and in the morning, replace the fuses and see if the car will start after sitting. If it continues to discharge the battery then try another set of fuses. The day it starts after sitting then you have narrowed the electrical system that is discharging your battery. Focus on those systems

I have a transit van but it doesn't start in the morning/alternat

Do an aquiesent discharge test, using a multi meter set to 10amps disconnect the neg terminal of the battery and put the meter in line, (poss lead to neg of battery and neg lead to neg lead to battery or earth point). there should be very little drain, just the memory for the radio etc just a few milliamps any more like 1 amp or more and you have something like a boot light stuck on window lifter motor stuck on raise etc,, it could also be a duff plate in the battery, get a deep discharge test done at a quick fit place, this will test the battery's capacity to hold a charge under load.

you may very well be on the right track here... if it were me and my van here, i would replace the dimmer. i bet you can get another from a parts house without going to the dealer. then again... get the price from the parts house and see if the dealer will match the price for the part ( under the current big 3 situation they may do it)

2001 Pontiac Bonneville won't start

have you not left any load on overnight?..like park light or left the door partially open and the dome light would be left on?

have the battery recharge and the next night, make sure that no light would be left on the car.

if it would drain out again, have it recharged again, use it and on the night, make sure no light is left on the car, then remove the positive pole on the battery overnight.

the next morning, put the positive cable back and start the car.

if the car would start, then no problem with the battery, if the car would not start, then return the battery because it is defective.

tnx 4 using fixya,
