Question about 1992 GMC Sonoma

1 Answer

Gauges I am in the process of repairing my truck and one of the parts that needed to be replaced was the gauges. I went to the junk yard and bought the gauge from another truck(same model) and came home to replace it, but it doesn't work. What am I doing wrong? or what do I need to look for that might need to be replaced. Please help. Mr. Garza

Was the truck the smae year and model? it may look the same on the outside but the be wiring differently, without holding both and looking at them there is no way to tell, did you think the used guage may be defective? did you test the wiring to the guage?

Anti slosh module is bad in the instrument panel. Small PC board that pops out. Junk yard only part. Or replace the instrument panel.

Rusted crossbar underneath truck near transmission , Where can I find a replacement?

In my 2000 Bravada I went to the Olds/Gm dealer and bought it for $100. I went to junk yard after junk yard to find it but found out that it is very common for that bar to be rusted through. I even had to jack up my transmission just to get it in the correct way. I even went to the local Walmart and bought some undercoating kinda like rino lining. Took a full day to get it sprayed and really covered. The next day I was able to put it in. It is not easy to do but it can be done.

I have a 2000 kia sephia and my speedometer is not working. I went to the junk yard and bought another gauge. Put that gauge in and I have the same problem. What should I do next?

That would indicate the problem is the speed sensor in the transmission or a fault in the transmission control module. Both of which are repairs I recommend you leave to a shop that deals specifically with transmission issues. they will have test equipment that can identify exactly which is bad and they will be better equipped to remove and install the transmission if needed.

Gas gauge temp gauge and speedometer all went past the maximum limits and have stayed there. All went at the same time.

Scan the PCM (power train control module) Most auto supply stores will do it free (Auto Zone ect.) write down the codes and check a repair manual, or search the codes on line. More than likely the PCM module went bad or the connector is loose. Call your local junk yard get a price for that model. They are not cheap should solve your problem. Hope this helps?

The oddometer works but the speedometer doesn't in my 1992 Dodge Ram pickup. The gear that sits inside the transmission is not stripped and engages fine. Can the problem be somewhere other than the...

Could be a bad cluster. If one is cable driven, and the other electric. You could have a bad speed sensor in the transmission which will make the speedo not work.

I have a 2005 scion ax and the speedometer gauge doesn't work but every other guage is working fine.

I had the same problem. I replaced the instrument cluster. I went to a junk yard and bought a used instrument cluster, then sent that to a tachometer repair facility to have the mileage set correctly. Taking the trim panel off was easy, just two pins on the top hold it in place. Gently pull off the panel, it is plastic and it just snaps in and out. Then remove the three screws that hold the instrument cluster in place, disconnect the plugs and do the reverse to install the "new" instrument cluster. The used part cost me 150 (vs 400 for new) and 150 to have the odometer reset (ripoff I think, but what are you going to do?). Labor was quoted at 110, I did the whole job in about 20 minutes (not including the run-around for parts). Works perfectly now.
