Question about Jeep Wrangler

Just replaced the water pump, thermostat and clutch fan on a 1997 Jeep Wrangler. It still overheats. Has a recent radiator replaced also.

    Well, I've replaced the water pump with High Flow Pump. Replaced Thermostat 2-times now, installed new Thermostatically controlled Electric Push Fan and my 2004 Jeep Wrangler STILL overheats at a stop light! I've had a very good mechanic tell me I'm replacing too many things without first testing the Coolant System for proper flow, proper coolant/water mix and he advises it could be as simple as replacing the radiator cap! which besides replacing the entire radiator is the only thing I have not done yet.

Check to see if the thermostat is installed correctly there is a certain way it goes the cooling system. Since you have had a lot of parts replaced could have air trapped in system this can cause overheating as well. Drain radiator leave cap of and start motor add water slowly until radiator is at the level recommended. Does car have white smoke comming out exhuast pipe this would be good indication of a blown head gasket. Hope this helps

Why after replacing my radiator due to a crackk, why now dose it overheaqt right away ? replacede thermostat and radiator and bled alot of air out??


possibilites 1, you still have air in system, 2, You put the thermostat in backwards.. 3. new thermostat is not functing properly.. remove it and check in a pot of boiling water.. you should be able to see it open just as the water boils. 4.Does it have electric fans? Are they running ? 5. Possibly a bad water pump. 6. possibilty a loose fan belt possiblty 7. Bad fan clutch if you have one. 8. A very obscure one.. The raditor hose collapses from the water pump suction.. that is why the hoses sometime have a "spring" in them.. Most likely.. Air in system or Thermostat problem..

It should be 200 degrees. If your running cold the only thing that regulates temp is the thermostat. If it is indeed 150 degrees thats why you have no heat.

If you replaced the water pump and the radiator for this condition then it was a waste of money. If you had a water pump or radiator problem it would overheat.

The fact that your blowing cold air tells me the that you really are 150 degrees or the heater core is plugged.

Why is my 2005 jeep wrangler overheating while driving highway speeds and cool at an idle. Even after replacing the water pump, the thermostat, and the radiator????


If this vehicle has a clutch type fan it is probably the problem, good at idle but once the rpm's speed up it does not keep up with engine speed, thats why it heats up at highway speed.
Difficult to diagnose because you cant always tell if it is spinning as fast as it is supposed to be.

check the casting on your replacement water pump..4.0l engines require a reverse rotating water pump..may be causing your problem.

Yes...and no. and you left out the electric fan, and clutch on primary fan. You need to determine the cause by testing. Unless the water pump is leaking or the bearing on the shaft is loose or noisy, it is not causing overheat. Primary cause of overheats is coolant loss. check everything for any and all leaks. Next, change thermostat. It's cheap and easy to replace plus it becomes unreliable after any overheat. Check electric fan to make sure it comes on when needed, and last, check that radiator is not either externally blocked (leaves etc) or internally blocked with calcium deposits. If you have any white smoke from tailpipe , coolant in engine oil or on spark plugs, you have a blown head gasket.
Hopefully it's something simple!

Overheating


The thermostat is behind the upper radiator hose...remove the upper radiator hose and loosen and then remove the two bolts on the outlet (where the upper radiator hose ends) The thermostat is inside that outlet...Another thing to check is if there is water in the oil...If there is water in the oil then it could have a head gasket problem..Did you ever replace the thermostat? If it is stuck then it would also cause overheating...Excessive exhaust backpressure because of a clogged catalytic converter could also cause overheating..Also check belt tension and condition. A loose belt that slips may prevent the water pump from circulating coolant fast enough and/or the fan from turning fast for proper cooling...Another thing it could be is a faulty Water pump -- Any wobble in the pump shaft or seepage would call for replacement. In some instances, a pump can cause an engine to overheat if the impeller vanes are badly eroded due to corrosion or if the impeller has come loose from the shaft. The wrong pump may also cause an engine to overheat. Some engines with serpentine drive belts require a special water pump that turns in the opposite direction of those used on the same engine with ordinary V-belts... Also check the Fan -- With mechanical fans, most overheating problems are caused by a faulty fan clutch, though a missing fan shroud can reduce the fan's cooling effectiveness by as much as 50% (depending on the fan's distance from the radiator) which may be enough to cause the engine to overheat in hot weather or when working hard.

Have the cooling system pressure tested. If it holds pressure, that's a good thing. If it doesn't hold pressure, you may have a leaking head gasket. What may be happening is the crack in the head gasket could be blowing hot air into the cooling system causing it to overheat.

2004 Jeep wrangler 4.0 - 6cyl overheating


I had the same overheating problem in my jeep ! My problem was finaly found out to be the clutch in my fan its a different kind of clutch system it work as this. When your jeep gets warmer the tighter your fan clutch gets .While cool your fan moves slowly. now to test your clutch just warm up your jeep and rev it up a bit if your fan dose not pick up speed then it is sliping.What will come out of this is that you fan will the seez and run full all the time. if you jeep dose not overheat wile moving then it is not your thermo stat period.
