It may be a mechanical seizure due to overheating. If this is the case you will need to strip the bottom end and physically drive the piston out. Once this has been done you will (probably) need to re-bore or re-sleeve and a new or very good piston acquired. (oversize if re-bored) It may be that water has got in and it is seized up due to rust,if you are very patient and in no hurry you could free it using a variety of agents, ie Plus Gas, diesel, petrol, a mixture of all these, leave for a few days, the occasional tap with a piece of wood and a hammer, repeat regularly, It may work. Good luck. Tony

05 ford ranger started knocking and shut off now won't crank. What is wrong?

Started knocking and shut off ? Now will not start?
That sounds bad - check fluids - engine oil and coolant - those three symptoms can indicate overheating (either by lack of coolant or engine oil).
Did either fluid get low AND does the engine oil look contaminated - milky colored and way overful.
Not Start? Does it turn the engine and just not fire up running?
Or does the engine not turn over at all?
If the engine is siezed - you can tell by the electrical power needed to crank the engine - turn on the lights and try to crank the engine - if all you hear from the starter is a click and all the lights dim - that means a lot of power is needed like:
1. the battery doesn't have enough power - jump start to verify
2. or it requires more power to turn the engine than the battery can provide - engine siezed - try turning the engine by hand with socket/wrench to verify.
I hope your engine is not siezed - if so - hope you still have warranty coverage on the powertrain.
Please let me know what you find and if this helps?

hi have you checked the timing belt? this might have broken, the other thing these are renouned for is if you get water into the air filter this will sieze the engine also, so if you have driven through a big puddle recently this might be the cause, other than that something might have broke inside the engine, and to be honest the list would be never ending, could be....piston broken, piston rings broken, crank bearing siezed, big end broken, valve snaped, and it goes on...

MY VEHICLE STALLS ON START UP AND THERE IS A SCREAMING THAT SOUNDS LIKE THE BELT GOING OUT. THE VEHICLE STARTS FULLY AFTER 3 OR 4 TRIES.

It sounds like your car has an a/c compressor or some other accessories that are siezed or trying to sieze.Idler pulleys are famous for this, and the extra drag created by this will stall the engine. The belt noise should be accompanied by a rubber burning smell as the belt slips on the pulley. Take off the drive belt and see if the problem goes away, if it does, then simply give each pulley a turn with your hand until you find the one that is siezed, easy no ?

2002 WRX won't start

Could be lack of current from the battery, corrosion on the terminals, bad ignition switch, bad neutral safety or clutch safety switch, bad solenoid, bad starter brushes, bad starter field, bad engine ground strap, or siezed engine.

For a quick check, turn the headlights on as you try to crank.

If they do not dim, then current never getting to starter field.
If no click as well, then not getting to starter solenoid.

If they dim but come back when you stop, then battery good and either starter or engine is bad.

If they dim and don't come back, then battery is bad.

Engine will not start after replaced piston bearings on crank sha

you can reach down and turn the crankshaft pully by hand to see. If you have a manual transmission, it's even easier; push it a little, put it in 3rd gear, and pop the clutch, and see if the engine turns that way.

Air conditioning idler pulley siezed

There are 2 bolts that hold the tensioner to the engine. The pulley is part of the assembly when bought at a dealership.

Focus c-max non starter

if the starter is not turning the engine, then it is either a weak or jammed starter, or a siezed engine.....tap the starter with a hammer ( lightly )...while someone tries to start the engine...if nothing happens, then its the engine.......try a spanner on the pully of the flywheel, and turn manualy by hand, if it wont turn, then the engine has siezed

the ignition coil would not make the engine sieze up, more likley that the car had no oli or the heatgasket caused this
