I have a 99 boxster which I have let the battery run down. I can manually open the door, but the hood and trunk locking mechanism will not allow me to open the hood and get to the battery. Help...Thanks
If the cigarette lighter is an unswitched power point you could use it as a location to put a very small charge, just enough to get the hood release solenoid to activate. Years ago there was a device that was a male cigarette lighter power point at both ends and enough cable to go from car to car. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DO ANYTHING ELSE EXCEPT OPEN HOOD, DO NOT TURN KEY TO RUN OR ATTEMPT TO START. ANYTHING COULD RESULT. MINOR OR MAJOR. THERE IS A COMPUTER MEMORY SAVER THAT MATES A 9 VOLT TO A MALE CIGARETTE LIGHTER PLUG THIS MAY NOT BE ENOUGH TO RELEASE HOOD BUT MAYBE WITH A 12 VOLT FLASHLIGHT BATTERY (2 6 VOLT BATTERIES) WOULD WORK TO OPEN THE HOOD. (TURN EVERYTHING OFF EVEN DOME LIGHT.)
You can get a battery booster that plugs in the Cigarette lighter socket. Let it charge for 10 minutes and open the hood or trunk to get to battery. It works as long as lighter socket fuse is Ok. Good Luck.

There is a manual way to open the trunks, but they can be difficult to get to. If your Boxter is anything like my 2003 911 (and it is), there is a cable pull directly in front of the passenger front tire. Turn the steering wheel to the full left, then get out and see if you can fish your hand up between the plastic splash guards for this cable. Once you find it and pull it, it should manually pop the front hood/trunk. As for why the electronic popper is not working may be some bad relay or blown fuse. May be a trip to your local Porsche mechanic. Good luck.
Some remote battery starters, in addition to battery clamps, also have a separate cig. lighter male plug. Inserting this will give you enough juice to reset the alarm and then open the trunk. There are also two terminals down by the manual spoiler switch (in the driver's footwell) that can be wired to a separate battery to do the same.
This is a common problem. Your alarm was on when the battery went dead. When the alarm activated, the hood/bonnet opening lever locks to prevent thieves from opening the hood in case the top is down. Some boxsters have a jumper post the pulls out near the fuse box. However, I do not think the 1997-1999s have this post.
Buy a male-to-male cigarette lighter adapter at the auto store. Connect between your car's cigarette lighter socket and the other car's cigarette lighter socket. Do not try to start the ignition or the any other electronics. You should not even need the key in the ignition. You should be able to pop the door locks with the remote and open the bonnet.

I have two Boxsters and have had to use this fuse box procedure on each. On the first car I followed the instructions in the manual and it worked perfectly. On the second car, I followed the identical procedure and nothing happened. After much fiddling, I realized that the clamp on to the door latch was not making a ground connection. Try touching the ground clamp directly to the head of one of the bolts on the door latch. This worked for me and the hood opened instantly. The quality of the ground connection seems to be the key. By the way, if you do not want to use a donor battery, a battery charger will provide sufficient power to release the hood latch. Good luck.
It can only be done using the key fob. Othersise use button inside the car. If your battery is flat you need a donor battery wiring to a connection in the fuse box (positive) anf door lock(negative) but see your hand book.
open the fuse box in the foot well should be redpillar that can pull towards you will have a pic of a car on it.connect one live to this earth to door latch and now can pop hood.there is also a button by fuse box to close open rear spoiler.
