YOU must press the brake before you can take it out of park

Rock the car back and forth while somebody puts the car in gear. Don't run them over lol. I had the same problem with my jag s-type if I parked on a incline. The first time it happened I broke the cable cause I was mad. There went a $1000. Then it happened with the new one again and I found that by rocking the car while putting it in gear worked.

I, as well as a guy I work with both drive s-types. He had this problem with his.

The problem is with a cable that runs from the shifter to the transmission. There is a bracket which holds the cable in place. This bracket is prone to coming loose and when that happens, your s-type won't shift out of neutral. Use loctite to resecure the small bracket and you'll be back on the road.

sounds like the j gate is faulty poss the release solenoid or wiring from memory i think the signal to release the gearshift comes from the abs module on the can network.

Why does my 2003 S Type Jaguar shifts hard in lower gears?

You're probably shifting wrong. Or there's a problem with your gear ratio or clutch. are you grinding the gears or is it just shifting weird?

I can't get my Gear Shift our of Park. The engine

Common problem.

In future, when on put it in park only AFTER the handbrake is applied. Ideally, foot brake, shift to N, apply handbrake, release foot brake, shift to park.

If the incline isn't steep have someone push car uphill while you gently move gearshift shift out of park. If its a steep hill, call a tow truck and move to a level surface. The parking pawl in the transmission becomes groved over time (and sticks) unless you use the handbreak as described.

1999 s type jag gearbox problem

Sticky transmission I call that. Go see a few garages and a few quotes with guarantee on workmanship..
Mind you I started on big trucks with Allison transmissions and we overhauled those.
Too long a story to explain those transmissions.

I you really want to:
http://www.car-stuff.com/jaguarrepairmanual.htm
order a haynes manual (need technical preknowledge)
or maybe local library with something on these type transmissions.

Pls rate a woman coming to your aid.
